Me, a Boomer, explained to a Millennial this week how I started smoking menthol cigarettes circa 1965 after tobacco marketers were alleged to have requested corner store owners to locate these menthol cigs on the front counter as the first item so kids could steal these when a clerk turned around to fill soft & iced drinks. Marketers were alleged in a tobacco trial discovery to have reimbursed the stolen cigs. <> I never had the courage to steal cigs, but these menthols circulated amongst the tough kids as treasures for trade. Took decades of on & off quitting to break nicotine addiction from those contraband menthols. Luckily vaping had not been invented in the 1960s.
