MAGA keeps defending Trump’s new ballroom with this ‘meme’ showing past presidents and their “White House additions,” conveniently leaving out all context and facts. Let’s fix that.
In 1902, President Theodore Roosevelt secured congressional funding for the West Wing in response to overcrowding in the White House’s executive offices.
The Oval Office was built in 1909 to provide President William Howard Taft with a dedicated workspace separate from the family quarters. Its construction was funded by a $40,000 congressional appropriation for expanding the Executive Office Building.
The East Wing was built in 1942 under the direction of President Franklin D. Roosevelt.
It was built to conceal the construction of the Presidential Emergency Operations Center (PEOC), an underground bunker.
Between 1948 and 1952, President Harry S. Truman gutted and rebuilt the White House, which had become dangerously unstable after nearly 1 150 years of poor renovations with a serious collapse risk, outdated wiring, fire hazards.
In 1973, Richard Nixon’s friends funded the construction of a one-lane bowling alley beneath the White House’s North Portico. The alley, donated to the White House, cost about $40,700.
Shortly after taking office in 2009, President Obama had the White House tennis court adapted so it could be used for both tennis and basketball.
Trump bragged on September 16, “I’m paying for it,” claiming his new White House ballroom could cost $250 million. In reality, tech, crypto, and defense companies have already pledged more than that, with fundraising still underway. The 90,000 square foot ballroom is pure vanity, an unnecessary and ostentatious monument to himself. He wants a gold room in Liberace fashion to host his phony events and leave behind a monument to his own ego, not the country. Congress did not authorize or appropriate a cent for it.
The Vegan Word conducted an analysis of vegan listings website Happycow and came up with a list of the cities with the most vegan restaurants per 100,000 inhabitants as of December 2022. Asian tourist hotspots ranked highest, with Phuket and Chiang Mai in Thailand and Ubud on the Indonesian island of Bali making up the top 3. One U.S. city - Portland, Oregon - and three European cities - including the Portuguese capital Lisbon, Dutch capital of Amsterdam as well as English seaside resort Brighton - also rank among the top 8.

It’s crushing to think it’s been six years today since we lost Chester Bennington; it would’ve also been Chris Cornell’s 59th birthday today.
Two voices of a generation who are sorely missed everyday. 🖤

My first concert... One of the originals of Woodstock and I got to see him perform his first time back at Beth-El Woods (the site of Woodstock). Amazing!
NGL I quote The Office ENTIRELY way too much for someone who has never actually seen the whole series and only ever watched it in the background because my friend would have it on.
We lost N.J. native James Gandolfini on this date 10 years ago. 💔 "Sopranos" creator David Chase's eulogy began, "Dear Jimmy. Your family asked me to speak at your service, and I am so honored and touched. I'm also really scared ..." https://t.co/QreVmtEb1J
