A pleasure to meet with Ireland’s Minister of State for European Affairs and Defence, @ThomasByrneTD, today in Tirana.

We had a thoughtful exchange on the EU integration of the Western Balkans and Albania’s unwavering commitment to its European path. As Ireland prepares to hold the Presidency of the Council of the EU in the second half of 2026, we truly appreciate its steadfast and forward-looking support for enlargement.

We also looked at ways to deepen bilateral ties , from launching direct flights to encouraging Irish investments. 🇦🇱🤝🇮🇪

Albania remains firmly committed to @NATO, consistently contributing both politically and operationally to the Alliance’s collective security.

We will allocate 5% of GDP annually to core defence and security-related spending by 2035 — meeting national responsibilities and strengthening collective resilience.

Hosting the NATO Summit in Tirana for the first time in 2027 will be a great honour — a clear reflection of Albania’s unwavering engagement and growing strategic role in the Alliance.

At the @NATO Foreign Ministers’ meeting, we reaffirmed our unwavering support for Ukraine and our united stance against growing security challenges, including hybrid threats.

I emphasized the critical need to strengthen NATO’s cohesion, particularly in safeguarding the security and stability of the Western Balkans, to effectively counter cross-border threats and reinforce our deterrence and defence capabilities.

Akti i sabotazhit mbi infrastrukturën kritike të furnizimit me ujë në kanalin e Ibër Lepencit është një krim i rëndë, i cili cënon jetën e qytetarëve të Kosovës dhe godet procesin e normalizimit të marrëdhënieve në rajonin tonë, ku të gjitha shtetet janë të përfshira në rrugën e integrimit në Bashkimin Europian. Kjo goditje kriminale duhet zbardhur e ndëshkuar sa më parë me mbështetjen e partnerëve ndërkombëtarë. Ndërkohë Bashkimi Europian duhet të heqë menjëherë sanksionet e mbetura ndaj Kosovës dhe të riangazhohet në një format të ri dialogu për normalizim mes Kosovës dhe Serbisë. Formati ekzistues ka dështuar të prodhojë rezultatet e dëshiruara dhe është koha që çështjet e dialogut të kalojnë përmes marrëdhënieve bilaterale të BE-së me Kosovën apo Serbinë, si dy shtete njësoj të pavarura prej njëra-tjetrës, ku fati europian i secilit shtet s’mund të varet nga dëshirat a mosdëshirat e shtetit tjetër; ashtu sikundër fati europian i krejt rajonit s’mund të varet nga mosnjohja e Kosovës nga Serbia apo 5 shtete anëtare të BE-së.

The act of sabotage on the critical water supply infrastructure in the Ibër-Lepenc Canal is a serious crime that endangers the lives of Kosova’s citizens and undermines the process of normalizing relations in our region, where all states are engaged in the path toward integration into the European Union. This criminal act must be investigated and punished as soon as possible, with the support of international partners.

Meanwhile, the European Union should immediately lift the remaining sanctions against Kosova and re-engage in a new dialogue format for normalization between Kosova and Serbia. The existing format has failed to produce the desired outcomes, and it is time for the dialogue issues to be addressed through the EU’s bilateral relations with Kosova or Serbia, as two equally independent states. The European future of each state cannot depend on the will or reluctance of the other state, just as the European future of the entire region cannot depend on Serbia’s non-recognition of Kosova or as well on the non-recognition of Kosova by five EU member states.

At the margins of the Washington NATO Summit, I had valuable meetings with my counterparts from Poland @radeksikorski and Iceland @thordiskolbrun.

We focused on strengthening bilateral and multilateral cooperation, addressing global challenges including dynamics in the Western Balkans, as well as reaffirming collective defense efforts and support for #Ukraine.

Had an excellent meeting with my Swedish counterpart @TobiasBillstrom. We discussed our robust bilateral relations and explored opportunities to enhance economic, trade, and investment cooperation between Sweden and Albania.

Sweden is a strong advocate for #EU enlargement and Western Balkans integration. I conveyed Albania’s appreciation for Sweden's support and valuable technical assistance in this journey.

Aligned in our stance against Russian aggression and our support for #Ukraine, we will continue to collaborate closely as @NATO allies to strengthen security and stability.

Twenty five years ago, @NATO intervention was crucial in halting Milosevic's genocidal ambitions against the Albanian population in Kosova.

Today, the independent and sovereign Kosova, is a testament to the resilience of its people and the sacrifices made by its freedom fighters. With unwavering dedication, Kosova has evolved into a functional democracy, aiming for full integration into the Euro-Atlantic family.
