Tanhaa Tanhaa is a tribute to our children Unnati & Ujjwal who lost their lives in the Uphaar fire. Life without them has lost all meaning. This track narrates the loneliness and agony we continue to undergo which we share with you through this song.

Delhi: Neelam Krishnamoorthy, President and Chairperson of the Association of Victims of Uphaar Tragedy (AVUT), says, "It is unfortunate that even after 29 years, nothing has changed. If anything has changed, it is that the value of human life has become even cheaper. All the government departments involved bear responsibility, and the reason is corruption. It is not that our country lacks fire safety laws or building by-laws. If these rules were followed in both letter and spirit, many lives could be saved. However, owners and occupiers often compromise on fire safety norms and building regulations simply to save money..."
Delhi: Neelam Krishnamoorthy, President and Chairperson of the Association of Victims of Uphaar Tragedy (AVUT), says, "In my view, the ₹60 crore paid by the Ansal brothers to the Delhi government amounted to a reward, not a punishment. The Delhi government was equally complicit because all the officials involved — from the Delhi Fire Service, DVB, MCD, and PWD — were employees of the Delhi government. In that case, the Delhi government could simply say, 'Let another tragedy like the Malviya Nagar incident happen; we'll receive another ₹22 crore.' The Supreme Court had specifically directed that the ₹60 crore be used to build a trauma centre dedicated to the victims. The Ansal brothers were to construct it, while the land was to be provided by DVB..."
Delhi: Neelam Krishnamoorthy, President and Chairperson of the Association of Victims of Uphaar Tragedy (AVUT), says, "You are absolutely right. This has been my own experience. People say, 'We have delivered justice.' But justice has not been delivered. The Supreme Court has delivered a judgment, but delivering a judgment is not the same as delivering justice. Justice is denied to victims, and victims are further victimised in this country. There is nothing called as justice..."
Delhi: Shekhar Krishnamoorthy, General Secretary of the Association of Victims of Uphaar Tragedy (AVUT), says, "This is why we say that there should be a specific law for man-made disasters. Such a law should mandate a minimum punishment of 10 years, make the offences non-bailable, and ensure time-bound trials that conclude within two years..."
Delhi: Shekhar Krishnamoorthy, General Secretary of the Association of Victims of Uphaar Tragedy (AVUT), says, "Absolutely nothing has changed. What happened at Uphaar also happened in Malviya Nagar. In both cases, there was only one entry and exit point, and people died of suffocation. Local shopkeepers laid mattresses to save those who jumped from above. So what has changed? Nothing. The fire brigade still arrives without adequate water, with damaged hoses, inadequate facilities, and insufficient manpower. The same situation has persisted for the last 30 years. We have witnessed so many tragedies, yet nothing has changed..."
Delhi: Visitors pay tribute to the victims of the Uphaar Cinema fire on the 29th anniversary of the tragedy that killed 59 people during a screening of 'Border' after a short-circuit in a basement transformer filled the Green Park theatre with toxic smoke.
In the 1997 Uphaar fire case, the CBI withdrew its closure report against former IPS officer Amod Kant and filed a status report in the Rouse Avenue Court. The agency cited ongoing proceedings in the Delhi High Court on prosecution sanction issues, with the next hearing scheduled for 6 July
