West Africans need to stop forcing our history into Abrahamic or Middle Eastern narratives. It’s historically inaccurate, and honestly, it reflects a deep cultural insecurity.

You Ijebu people are not Jews. Queen Sheba did not visit Ijebuland. Hausas are not Arabs from Baghdad. Igbos are not Israelites. We need to stop romanticizing foreign origins as if our civilizations only become meaningful when linked to the Middle East.

West Africa already has a rich, ancient, and sophisticated history of its own, you have the Nok, Ile-Ife, Benin, Oyo, Gao, Mali, Kanem-Bornu, Igbo-Ukwu, and countless others. Many of our ancestors had lived and developed cultures in these lands for tens of thousands of years before Judaism, Christianity, or Islam even emerged.

There is nothing inferior about being indigenous to Africa. We do not need borrowed identities to validate our existence, intelligence, spirituality, or achievements.

Our history stands on its own. Stop it!

I ordered akara, fried yam and pap yesterday night for my best friend and I because we were pulling an all nighter (me drafting a fresh appeal and the igede pikin finishing a code for a clients app).

We couldn’t finish the akara because it was too much, even the pap too (and I love pap, it’s a natural source of probiotics).

We spent 9800, and these people’s eatery is in the heart of Wuse (Aminu Kano) so their rent isn’t cheap yet their prices are reasonable.

Sometimes you people in Lagos behave as if paying excessively for the most basic things makes you a big boy/big girl.

Akara should not be more than 1k for 10 pieces. We bought 2 portions of akara, two portions of yam and one big bowl of pap (came with enough complimentary sugar and stuff and in takeaway packs not leather). Plus delivery we spent 11k in total and Apollo still got enough leftovers because it was too much for both of us.

But it’s “Lekki”, glorified suffering buffoons.
