Today, I stood in solidarity with fellow elected officials, LULAC and the family of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo to demand answers after the deadly shooting involving ICE agents yesterday in Houston. My prayers are with everyone affected by this death, especially the family members who lost a loved one. I support a thorough, transparent, and accurate review for the public to see exactly what happened. We are a nation of laws, and we must always demand justice.
The fatal shooting of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo by an ICE agent during an operation in Houston’s East End this morning is deeply concerning. The use of deadly force demands full scrutiny and transparency.
I am calling for a thorough and impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting, including the prompt release of all available video and investigative findings. The public deserves a timely account of what happened, clear answers, and accountability.
My office has reached out to the appropriate City departments to determine what additional information is available and whether any City personnel or resources were involved in the incident.
Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, who was shot on his way to work, was a husband, a father, and a longtime member of our community.
When anyone in Harris County loses their life during an interaction with law enforcement, the Harris County District Attorney’s Office conducts an investigation parallel to the agency leading the investigation. Unfortunately at this time, federal authorities continue exclusively handling all aspects in this case.
Let me be clear: Mr. Salgado Araujo’s family and our community deserve the truth.
I urge anyone with video, photos, or eyewitness accounts regarding Tuesday’s shooting in the 6800 block of Canal Street to come forward.
ICE fatally shot Lorenzo Salgado Araujo during a Houston enforcement operation. His family says he was a hardworking father on his way to work. This is a deadly pattern at DHS: no transparency, no oversight, no accountability. We demand an independent investigation.
I taught Ronaldo Salgado.
He was a great student, and I am still just stunned that this happened. Gonna try and support however I can.
Please send positive energy to the Salgado family, consider donating to them when links become available, and amplify their search for justice.
We all saw how Alex Pretti was treated.
As the official responsible for the safety of 5 million Texans I want a full and complete investigation into the shooting of a construction worker. This is an agency with a recent history of inexplicable arrests, extrajudicial violence, and blatant attempts at coverups. ICE has long since lost public trust.
"But lest we be tempted to rate this effort a failure, let us judge it on its own terms. Trump was able to snatch congressionally allocated funds, commingle them with cash from corporations seeking favor from his administration, enrich his buddies, and throw himself two spectacular birthday parties." https://t.co/6845h2oRAv
Since Trump took office, Wisconsinites are paying $3,000 more in a year for necessities while over 45,000 of them have lost healthcare. @RepVanOrden and @RepBryanSteil have stood by and allowed this. They have to go in November.
This is such blatant organized crime, it’s actually breathtaking.
Stuff like this convinces me there is no way this regime is going to leave peacefully.
If you can indict a guy for touching water, you can indict a shitload of people for this.
Your reminder that Ken Paxton has 4 kids with his soon-to-be ex-wife he cheated on, causing his marriage to breakup. His current mistress, Christian influencer Tracy Duhon has 4 living kids with her ex-husband she cheated on, causing her marriage to breakup. Family values my ass.
