In a place where we have to battle for the rights of Indigenous peoples, MPs let the truth be heard and unanimously passed a motion recognizing what happened at residential schools as a genocide.
This is historic. To survivors and descendants, I honour you today and every day.
NDP MP Leah Gazan reintroduced a motion to recognize what happened in Canada’s residential school system as an act of genocide.
Gazan introduced the same motion last year and it failed to pass – but this time it was passed unanimously.
