Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan have signed a joint defense agreement covering intelligence sharing and regional security coordination, as uncertainty over future US commitments pushes regional powers to rely less on outside guarantees, Turkish political commentator Ercan Mumlu told Sputnik.

💬 “While the American military presence and partnerships in the region remain, more and more countries are asking themselves in which crises, and to what extent, the United States will be willing to assume responsibility,” he said.

Mumlu said the widening of regional conflicts, from Gaza to Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Yemen, Iran and the Gulf, has created a much broader zone of instability and shown that the security of individual states can no longer be treated as a purely national issue.

Pakistani security forces intensified counter-terrorism operations against India-sponsored terrorists in Balochistan, Pakistan’s province bordering Iran.

In an intelligence-based operation in the Sihan Range under Operation Rad-ul-Fitna III, five BLA terrorists, including key commander Wazir, were eliminated.

Weapons and other equipment were also recovered, and terrorist hideouts were destroyed.

Iran’s initial reaction remains cautious, with hardliners largely framing the agreement negatively. However, the response is neither uniform nor irreversible.

Iranian social-media discourse reflects a clear divide, with rejection, restraint and accommodation emerging simultaneously.

IRGC- and Houthi-linked accounts are pushing a strong threat narrative, while a significant share of organic voices appears supportive or willing to accommodate the agreement.

The key battle is now over how the agreement is understood. Clear messaging from Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye that the pact is defensive, non-sectarian and not directed against Iran could help ease concerns.
