A memorable visit of @BritGeoSurvey geophysicists to Japan is nearing its end. We've learnt a lot about the resilience of flood protection infrastructure in the coastal plain and Japanese efforts to efficiently characterise their many levees, to prevent disastrous floods. #IGRD
We're holding several open days at the UK Geoenergy Observatory in Glasgow.
Guided tours will include an overview of thermal energy and an opportunity to see the infrastructure required to abstract heat from mine water.

Excellent talk today by BGS geophysicist @Adrianchwhite on resistivity monitoring of levees, followed on Wednesday by @m_cimpo on imaging hydraulic pathways in reservoir earth dams.
The @BritGeoSurvey crew at @EAGE_Global#NSGE Asia-Pacific in Tsukuba, Japan. Great event for meeting regional stakeholders in hazards and infrastructure resilience, and very welcoming hosts!
BGS Open Day is back for 2024!
Join us on the 8 June to explore volcanoes and earthquakes, soils and aquifers, the sea, the sky and everything in between!
Tickets will go live on Monday 29 April:

How do Arctic soils respond to environmental change?
We installed geoelectrical sensors in newly deglaciated sediments in Svalbard to continuously monitor the soils.
Here @m_cimpo & our team report how temp & moisture changes propagate with depth & time

Photos from the field:
Here's Harry Harrison testing some equipment in Svalbard, where he and @m_cimpo have been working on the #SUNSPEARS project.
While there they also spotted some Arctic foxes.
