Since October 2024, Turkey and Kurdish representatives have been engaged in a landmark peace and reconciliation effort — one that carries enormous significance for millions of people across the region.
In our May 2026 briefing, we examine where the process stands: the progress made, the sequencing dispute holding things back, the unprecedented proposal to give Abdullah Öcalan a formal role, and why the broader democratic environment in Turkey matters for the future of peace.
A just and lasting reconciliation requires concrete commitments, constitutional recognition of Kurdish rights, and a democratic foundation that all sides can trust.

Today marks the 46th anniversary of the Genocide of the Feyli Kurds, in which thousands of Feyli Kurds were killed, disappeared and displaced by the former Ba'athist regime.
Once again, we remind the federal government of its moral, legal and constitutional responsibility to provide reparations to the victims of the Genocide of the Feyli Kurds, the chemical weapons attacks, the Anfal Genocide and all the victims of the former Iraqi regime.
On this somber occasion, we pay tribute to the souls of the martyrs of the Genocide of the Feyli Kurds and all the martyrs of Kurdistan.
