A packed house for Safe Haven, supported by Kurdistan Society. Post-performance, Sir John Jenkins, H.E. Karwan Jamal Tahir, Catherine Roe & a Kurdish survivor reflected on resilience and the enduring friendship between the UK & Kurdistan Region. #Kurdistan#SafeHaven#Culture
My profound appreciation to my good friend Chris Bowers (writer of Safe Haven) play, Yad Deen (director), and the entire crew for this powerful text, astonishing direction, and excellent performance.
Bringing this pivotal, painful, and ultimately triumphant era of our history to the stage at @ArcolaTheatre is no small feat. You all breathed life into the memories of millions.
In international relations, we talk about "Operation Haven" as a strategic success. But for us, "Safe Haven" speaks for itself. It was a literal lifeline. ❤️
This powerful telling of the #Kurdish story reminds us what is possible when humanity overrides political hesitation.
Our resilience kept us alive on those mountains in 1992, but the Safe Haven gave us the sky to breathe. We must ensure the world remembers that lesson today.
We are grateful to Sir John Major for the bold decision in 1991 and those pragmatic diplomats who untangled complex geopolitical knots in distant rooms.
Join us, 26 June for the outstanding performance of Safe Haven by Chris Bowers at the Arcola Theatre. Panel discussion to follow. https://t.co/Bl91dzSrfI
Delighted to attend the inaugural Birmingham Kurdish Film Festival. 4 days, 33 films from across Kurdistan showcased the richness of Kurdish storytelling, culture and identity.
Looking forward to seeing the festival return in 2027.

"How do you stop a genocide from inside diplomatic rooms?" 🏛️
In 1991, a humanitarian catastrophe was averted in the mountains of #Kurdistan. Written by former #Britishdiplomat Chris Bowers, "Safe Haven" is a gripping story of resistance, diplomacy, and the plight of the Kurdish people.
Back by popular demand for a limited rerun! Don't miss it. 🎭✨
