@ReformedToRome@JoshBuice Thanks so much for the explanation. Do you have to eventually repent of the venial ones, or can you deny until you die so to speak?
@chesterposting @akremer94 @unnamed_sourc3s@JoelWBerry Which crimes are the ones that carry over as capital offenses to 2023?
Who decides which ones count?
Should the USA institute the death penalty for breaking the Sabbath?
Does Romans 13 & Kennedy vs LA prove my assertion is correct even under your framework?
Better luck next time
@Skippy_DCM So when I wake my 4 year old in the morning, if she doesn't jump out of bed and run to the bathroom to brush her teeth in 1-2 seconds, that warrants discipline? Maybe 3-4 seconds would be fair?
@chesterposting @akremer94 @unnamed_sourc3s@JoelWBerry You jumped in after I had set the conditions precluding the Mosaic law. Ignoring context ftw! Should breaking the sabbath be a capital offense?
@chesterposting @akremer94 @unnamed_sourc3s@JoelWBerry That escalated quickly. Are you mad?
You have to support your assertion that scripture recommends capital punishment for post-Israel society. Simply saying that it is in the OT isn't sufficient. You only linked to an article where some reformers wanted to kill blasphemers
@chesterposting @akremer94 @unnamed_sourc3s@JoelWBerry Yes. The standard viewpoint is only the moral law carries over. If you are trying to include something else, you have to justify that decision. That leads us again to who decides and which items carry over?
AGAIN please answer: does breaking the Sabbath qualify for the DP?
@ReformedToRome@JoshBuice Interesting. What then, is the difference in a mortal sin vs ordinary sin if you don't have to do the Catholic Stuff in a dire circumstance? (Sorry I don't know the terminology)
Back to the temporal: if you do all of the mortal things while killing yourself, can you repent?
@chesterposting @akremer94 @unnamed_sourc3s@JoelWBerry Also, you still haven't answered - would you support the death penalty being put on the books for breaking the Sabbath? Is that one of the general equities that carries over? It seems to be a grave violation of the 10 commandments after all
@chesterposting @akremer94 @unnamed_sourc3s@JoelWBerry So you are subscribing to the institution of some, but not all Mosaic death pen. into US law. That is surely arbitrary. Which ones? Who decides? The US government per Romans 13? That was my initial post you commented on. Kennedy vs LA precludes rape from capital punishment
@ReformedToRome@JoshBuice Sure, they are located in time, since a time existed before accepting Christ, but just like faith, they don't use up time to exist after conversion. I was under the impression that there was "stuff" to do to cleanse a mortal sin. If not, how is a mortal sin unique?
@chesterposting @akremer94 @unnamed_sourc3s@JoelWBerry If that is too hard for you to answer, how about this:
Would you support a law on the books in the USA that required the death penalty for breaking the Sabbath? If not, explain how you pick-and-choose which OT prescriptions for death you abide by.
@ReformedToRome@JoshBuice "Spiritual Works" is nonsensical.
Works take place temporally. That's what I was hinting at in the original scenario. If repentance is desired, but the physical works haven't been completed yet, does that person go to Hell? eg heart attack/car crash on the way to confession
@chesterposting @akremer94 @unnamed_sourc3s@JoelWBerry Again please answer:
If you use the OT Mosaic Covenant to justify the death penalty for rape, you are logically committed to upholding the death penalty for all of the other charges in the OT eg breaking the Sabbath. Yes or No?
@ReformedToRome@JoshBuice Repentance is a good answer from my point of view. I view faith and repentance as two sides of one coin.
The difference between us is that I believe repentance is from the heart and necessarily flows out of a saved person, and you believe that repentance involves physical works
@ReformedToRome@JoshBuice 2 scenarios:
1. Man who's in saving faith commits mortal sin, almost completes "Catholic stuff" right before dying. Hell
2. Same man as in 1. commits mortal sin, then does 100% of "Catholic stuff" immediately before dying. Heaven
What is the difference? Faith or works?
@chesterposting @akremer94 @unnamed_sourc3s@JoelWBerry You are trying to pivot. Please answer:
If you use the OT Mosaic Covenant to justify the death penalty for rape, you are logically committed to upholding the death penalty for all of the other charges in the OT eg breaking the Sabbath. Yes or No?
@smashbaals The architecture thing is where I get off. I'm not saying it is wrong, but it isn't inherently good either. You can pay reverence to God in other ways, and money is better spent elsewhere.
