Players: You can be as skilled as they come, but if you don’t know how to play hard, compete, handle adversity, be a good teammate & be coachable, your abilities won’t matter. If all you do is fall apart when things get hard, your skills become useless. Mindset trumps ability!
Baylor guards showed that you have to be able to go get a bucket .. but a 50 move combo was never seen - they were 1 move and blow by/pull up or a move or 2 and counter
You have to be able to score off the dribble, but get rid of the unnecessary dribbling & go no where
Coaches: Whether you win the state title or fall short, it’s just a moment & life will go on. The greatest part of coaching is getting W’s after the season. Seeing players sign LOI, graduate HS, go to college, get jobs, be successful, etc. in the real game...LIFE. That’s Winning!
END 3: Western Michigan Christian 45, Orchard View 35. OV having all kinds of trouble with @OwenVarnado, who scores on a driving layup to end the third for the Warriors’ largest lead of the night. Will the Cardinals fall die the first time this season? @WMCsports@OVCardinalMBB
More proof that players should spend A LOT more time on shooting, finishing & decision making & A LOT less time on fancy dribbling drills & isolation moves!
Parents: Don’t pressure your kids to do what pro athletes are doing. Your kids aren’t pros. When professional players were kids, do you know what they were doing? Most were playing several sports, playing outdoors with their friends & loving being a kid. Let your kid be a kid!
Pastor Gilchrist at University Fellowship challenged me with his message today by asking “Where is my hope? He said when people ask us how we’re doing I should tell them: “I am confident and hopeful because of who is leading me—Jesus Christ.”
In his message this morning Pastor asked a great question: If salvation & eternal life is so important to us why don’t we share the way to heaven with more people? Do we not care about our friends or do we really not believe our message? If we care & we believe we need to share.
"When people ask, 'Why doesn't this God of yours do something?' we need to learn to say that our God has done something, then tell the story of the cross." —Alistair Begg

Players: Your body language, attitude, choices & decisions off the court can enhance your athleticism & playing time or it can help destroy it. Don’t think for one second that your athletic career is only based on the minutes during games. Be a positive force for you & your team.
Players: Everybody wants to get noticed. The attention you get should be for the right reasons. Attitude, work ethic & dedication are among the top. Be so good, work so hard, give so much that you can’t be ignored. Learn & grow in a positive way. Your progress will get attention!
Coaches: The person is always more important than the player. Developing better people should be your #1 commitment. Sports have a very short life span. Development, relationships & education will last forever. Seeing kids learn, grow & develop should be what coaches strive for.
4 Things You Can Do Today
To Practice Positive Leadership
1. See possibilities when others don’t.
2. Focus on solutions.
3. Encourage people when they are feeling defeated.
4. Demonstrate commitment when others want to quit.
Players: You spent summer, fall & winter working, preparing, dreaming about it. Now reap the rewards. Remember, you don't have to be the best team; just be the best team that game. Play for each other & your team; outthink your opponent. Winning starts in your head. Believe it!
