My eyes were wet from start to finish. I thought of being little in a big world & watching my son's first tries at this mad game. ESPN's Open to the NHL season is beautiful. I didn't expect to cry today-this is stunning. There's nothing like this sport. We at ESPN love the sport as you do. ❤️ Enjoy.
Honestly this goes all the way down to Mite level hockey. Even little kids want to make the best team in their program at their age group. Then the following year it’s those same kids that made the best team within their program that want to make the best team period for their age group. It’s always been about number 1 and then the team forms itself and bonds every year.
The real story is that hockey players in particular want to push themselves to be the absolute best they can be, at the highest level, and win. Hockey players love the challenge to compete. It’s what makes this sport what it is.

After Pete Crow-Armstrong stole 2B in the 1st inning Thursday to secure his place in the 40-40 club, the Wrigley faithful gave him a huge ovation.
That nearly moved PCA to tears on the field in what he describes as one of the most special moments of his life:
11 traditions that feel like magic to kids.
Kids don't remember what you bought.
They remember what you repeated.
Childhood isn't made of highlights.
It's made of little things that feel like home... 👇 🧵
Ben Johnson is a genius, and I think most people missed this yesterday.
The Bears team breakdown was a MASTERCLASS in psychological manipulation.
All offseason there was a question surrounding whether Ben Johnson would bring back “Good, Better, Best” as a victory chant.
And honestly, it was probably a difficult thing for him to navigate.
• What if you try something new and it doesn’t hit the same?
Or
• What if you keep it around and people think it’s recycled and lazy?
Ben knows that.
So instead, he creates option 3, and shocks the team by giving them no victory breakdown at all.
What happens next is cool to witness…
This causes immense dissatisfaction within the players and creates a vacuum of desire to cap off their victory.
Players all over the lockerroom start yelling and begging for it.
Jahdae Walker even starts tweaking out like a drug addict. He’s joking, but the joke is playing off very similar withdrawal based brain chemistry.
✨And suddenly the entire psychology behind GBB has changed into a necessity✨
Ben is no longer forcing last year’s tradition onto a new team.
It is something the PLAYERS CRAVE.
So Ben Johnson being a good coach gives them what they want…
although he puppeteered the entire situation.
In the Cubs' first home game after 9/11, Sammy Sosa and first base coach Billy Williams had a small American flag ready, so that *when* Sammy homered, they could offer this incredible tribute:
AMBITION looks like:
Waking up before everyone else
Having a plan for the day, week, year
Setting micro goals
Executing thru the noise
Belief while others say you can’t
Commitment thru set backs
Focused intention in every move
Never let up drive
Attack every opportunity
Better prepared
Better researched
Better informed
Than anyone else in the room
And when I say
Leave nothing on the field
You’d better believe
I’m bloody
I’m bruised
I’m gassed
I’m nauseous
I’m weak
I’m drenched in sweat
I’m breathing hard
And I’m thirsty for more
EVERY FUCKING DAY

Delaying big purchases can be a huge wealth accelerator in your 20s-40s
Most of my clients have seen their income 2-5x in just a few years
If you hold off on the bigger house, nicer cars, and or luxury trips during that growth period, you create a window where you can stack massive contributions
Those extra years of investing early can change your financial trajectory forever
this is the time of year the deals start to pick up. always someone trying to close before year end. it’s always a weird business like a toaster factory. they will close in January.
A twenty-two-year-old nursing student sits in her dorm room staring at a financial portal on her laptop screen.
Total Federal Student Loan Balance: $74,500.
Interest rate: 6.8%.
Her father has worked thirty years as an auto mechanic, paying property taxes and state income taxes without missing a single deadline. But with the cost of groceries and utilities, he couldn't save enough to write a tuition check.
So his daughter signed her name on the dotted line.
She will work twelve-hour night shifts in an emergency room for the next twenty-five years just to pay off the interest on the paper she used to get her degree.
Now look at the state laws passed in progressive capitals across America:
In states like California, Minnesota, and Illinois, state legislators created special programs offering 100% free college tuition and state-backed financial aid to undocumented students who entered the country illegally.
Look at the two desks:
The daughter of a taxpaying American citizen takes on a lifelong ball and chain of compound interest to learn how to save lives.
While the student who crossed the border without inspection gets their tuition, books, and fees paid for by the state treasury.
You are forcing the American middle class to mortgage their children's financial futures.
While handing out free college degrees as a political recruitment drive.
Look every young graduate drowning in monthly loan payments in the eye:
Why are we crushing our own children under mountains of debt, while giving a free ride to people who broke our laws?
This is so lame and weak and un-American and way more things. Don’t do your best? Giving a C level effort (80% used to be a C grade back in my day at least) is OK? If you mess something up don’t you want to be able to look yourself in the mirror and be honest that you could have done better or that you really did everything within your power to do your best? You’re fine if someone outworks you and passes you up?

John Harbaugh says every team fights 4 silent forces - every single day.
He and his brother named them years ago.
You won't always see them - but they shape your culture and define your team.
