@Quirknky I feel like the strategy would be simple where they just release a bunch of quotes from DSA leaders that are sympathetic towards communism.
But if it doesn’t work in kicking DSA out of the party then you end up with a Democratic Party that’s cooler with communism.
@TheStalwart Hi Joe,
I’ve already donated my life savings to AI research because I learned about Roko’s Basilisk. I didn’t consider this possibility.
Please advise.
Thanks.
@jdcmedlock Maybe all of these hyper specific tax breaks will have similar paper work requirement barriers as means tested benefits do so no one actually gets them.
@souljagoyteller Looking at these locations I think that one Buffalo rep that got mad at Scranton for picking up former Binghamton clients was right. They had all of Pennsylvania to themselves. They should’ve stayed out of New York
@MattBruenig@mattyglesias@brianbeutler In fact, you should be able to see differences in sensitivity to inflation between salaried and hourly employees. Salaried workers will see a larger unit increase when they receive a raise than hourly and that salary is also larger than most things they purchase.
@MattBruenig@mattyglesias@brianbeutler It might be different but my default assumption would be that it’s just internalized culturally. I would expect Europeans to be more amazed at a kid growing 3 inches when you tell them it’s 7.5 cm
@MattBruenig@mattyglesias@brianbeutler Is there evidence of more sensitivity to inflation for currencies that deal in higher denominations like Japan or India?
@souljagoyteller Wouldn’t the alternative history of the Madagascar Plan be changed to the Israel Plan where Israel might’ve been more receptive to receiving the deported Jews and Britain wouldn’t have blockaded?
Announcement — I am now seeking support to officially launch a little global affairs magazine. We plan to pay writers all around the world, and pay them well, to do our small part to save knowledge and human civilization. It's a Substack. Please join us
@mattyglesias My limited understanding is that they’re basically banks but it’s harder to pull your “deposit” with them. In exchange for the higher hurdles they pay investors higher rates.
Haven’t read anything about the crisis but they blew up under in the zero rate environment.
This absolutely would not have happened if supporters of Palestine had backed down and given Harris their vote.
The left's courage in 2024 has made possible a real victory - not just a less-evil "victory" - in 2028.
The average KY teacher makes $59,855/year. They're getting ~$633/yr in income tax cuts (& paying ~$104/yr more in sales taxes). But under the House budget, their healthcare costs would soar ~$5,832/yr.
KY's richest 1%? They're getting $27,482/yr from the state income tax cuts.
The average KY school bus driver makes $15,364/yr. At that income they've received *nothing* from reducing the state's income tax. But under the House budget, their healthcare costs would soar $6,422/yr.
