Deeply saddened by the news that @SitaramYechury, the stalwart General Secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI (M)], has succumbed to a respiratory infection, leaving his many friends and admirers across the political spectrum in shock. His commitment to social justice, secularism, and workers’ rights has left a lasting legacy, but it his affable manner, ready wit and infectious smile that will long be remembered. Om Shanti.
The integrity of SEBI, the securities regulator entrusted with safeguarding the wealth of small retail investors, has been gravely compromised by the allegations against its Chairperson.
Honest investors across the country have pressing questions for the government:
- Why hasn’t SEBI Chairperson Madhabi Puri Buch resigned yet?
- If investors lose their hard-earned money, who will be held accountable—PM Modi, the SEBI Chairperson, or Gautam Adani?
- In light of the new and very serious allegations that have surfaced, will the Supreme Court look into this matter suo moto once again?
It is now abundantly clear why Prime Minister Modi is so afraid of a JPC probe and what it might reveal.
Shocked and saddened by the horrific news of the death of more than 40 Indians in a fire in Kuwait City.
My deepest condolences go out to the bereaved families, and I wish a speedy recovery to all those injured.
The condition of our workers in the Middle East is a serious matter of concern.
The Government of India, working alongside its counterparts, must prioritise the safety of our citizens and ensure dignified living standards.
My liver transplant patient who I first saw in 2018 in a coma due to liver failure came back today to show me her newborn. Clinical Medicine is wild, Hepatology is intense. What a ride.
"Death in today’s world involves large financial interests. Death is a bigger business than birth."
Nothing makes more sense than this statement in critical care offered to patients with advanced chronic diseases in corporate hospitals.
Providing a dignified death is as important a part of clinical medicine as diagnosis and management of preventable and treatable illnesses.
In critically ill patients who cannot be salvaged, avoiding expensive intensive unit care should be encouraged. When death is coming, educate patients and families on how to embrace is with dignity and comfort, and not subject them to more tests, and advanced treatments that delay inevitable death.

Prompt: “A stylish woman walks down a Tokyo street filled with warm glowing neon and animated city signage. she wears a black leather jacket, a long red dress, and black boots, and carries a black purse. she wears sunglasses and red lipstick. she walks confidently and casually. the street is damp and reflective, creating a mirror effect of the colorful lights. many pedestrians walk about.”
I had a young man come for a check up to my OPD yesterday. He was quite flustered. Last month, his good friend and drinking buddy vomited litres of blood, exsanguinated, went into shock and then coma, due to lack of oxygen to the brain. A whole week on the ventilator, he did not wake up and was ultimately declared brain dead. He was unmarried and his parents, who could not afford comfort care, decided to pull the plug. He died last week.
They were three friends and this guy was all shook up. They all drank alcohol daily, but the one who died had binged a day before he bled. He had undiagnosed cirrhosis.
This person saw multiple posts of mine on alcohol which were being forwared in his group after the death of his friend. The one which showed liver cirrhosis and cancers even in modest drinkers, caught his eye and made him lose sleep.
Fortunately, on evaluation, he did not have cirrhosis. But we did find an incidental nodule in his right kidney. It turned out to be a malignant kidney cancer. An early one. He will be fine, but will have to undergo surgery.
Alcohol is not just a liver poison. The biggest problem is risk of multiple types of cancers even with low doses of alcohol.
Just in case, here is a normal liver against a cirrhosis liver with cancer nodule to refresh everyone's memory.
