🚨 BIG UPDATE
GOVT LIKELY TO MOVE THE 130TH CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT BILL FOR PASSAGE DURING THE UPCOMING MONSOON SESSION OF PARLIAMENT.
THE BILL IS CURRENTLY UNDER REVIEW BY A JPC.
THE JPC REPORT IS EXPECTED TO BE TABLED AT THE START OF THE MONSOON SESSION.
AFTER THE REPORT IS PRESENTED, THE GOVT IS LIKELY TO MOVE THE BILL FOR PASSAGE.
AS A CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT, IT WILL REQUIRE A TWO-THIRDS MAJORITY IN PARLIAMENT.
THE PROPOSED LEGISLATION SEEKS TO PROVIDE FOR THE AUTOMATIC REMOVAL OF A PRIME MINISTER, CHIEF MINISTER OR OTHER PUBLIC REPRESENTATIVES IF THEY REMAIN UNDER ARREST FOR 30 DAYS OR MORE IN CASES INVOLVING SERIOUS OFFENCES.
