Satyendra Nath Bose helped reshape the foundations of physics, yet he remains one of science’s most under-recognised figures.

In 1924, the Indian physicist sent a brief paper to Albert Einstein that would go on to transform quantum mechanics. In it, Bose suggested a radical idea for the time: that identical subatomic particles might be fundamentally indistinguishable. Einstein quickly saw the importance of the concept, translated the work himself, and extended it mathematically to include matter as well as light.

This collaboration led to what is now known as Bose-Einstein statistics and established a key category of particles called bosons, which include photons and gluons.

Bose’s insight helped lay the groundwork for major advances in modern science and technology, from lasers and superconductors to the eventual discovery of the Higgs boson. Despite this impact, he never received a Nobel Prize. Today, his name lives on in physics, even if wider recognition has lagged behind his contribution.

Garga Chatterjee is a scholar of rare caliber.

He has MBBS degree from Medical College, University of Calcutta, Chatterjee

He has done PhD from Harvard University in the Cognition, Brain and Behavior track at the Vision Sciences Lab headed by Professor Ken Nakayama.

Now, he is an assistant professor at the Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata.

There are few Bengalis as educated and brilliant as he is. He would be better off simply focusing on his own research; what is the need to sacrifice his career and life for the sake of Bengal and the Bengali people?

Do Bengalis themselves even want anyone to fight on their behalf?

In the past, whenever he observed any decision detrimental to the interests of Bengal and Bengalis, he heavily criticized even the Trinamool Congress—and the Trinamool government itself.

Then also he faced abuse back from a certain people. now he has gone so far as to be arrested yet, even after all this, a certain section of Bengalis continues to shower him with hatred.

I would also urge the rest of the members of Bangla Pokkho: please stop. Is there really any need to invite trouble upon yourselves through all of this?

Today I took my daughter to Mani Square in Kolkata. We spent an hour at a play zone, and then she went to the children’s play area, Simba. What struck me was that in the first play zone, I did not hear a single conversation in Bangla around us—every interaction was in Hindi, including among families in the queue who clearly were not Bengali-speaking. At Simba, when I later asked my daughter, she said she spoke in English because everyone there was speaking Hindi. I am not making a value judgment on language—people are free to speak what they wish. But observations like these do suggest that a demographic shift may be underway in Kolkata, and perhaps that reality deserves acknowledgment.

His name is Krishnendu Mukherjee - a #Hindu Brahmin. Born in #Kolkata. His name is there in 2002 voter list, along with his mother & father. #ElectionCommissionOfIndia has deleted his name from #Bengal voter list. Strangely, his name is now updated in #Bihar voter data - how, he doesn’t know.

His mother’s name, sister’s name are there in the list, while he has been deleted and sent to Bihar.
