China's coal imports fell 6% in September year on year, crude oil imports fell 22% and fossil gas imports by 2%. Mirrors reductions in consumption as solar and wind displace coal and gas and EVs and rail displace oil.
Hundreds of tribal residents along India's Ken River voiced anger over an $87 billion government project to link some 30 rivers nationwide, championed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi https://t.co/uLWecp3ImJ
It is totally misguided to say that libertarians should be silent about protests in Delhi because we disagree with the politics of some of the organizers.
The government's attempts to suppress peaceful protests via mass detentions and restrictions of movement deserve unequivocal condemnation.
There is genuine public anger against the government and not without reason. There are concerns about electoral integrity, institutional independence and erosion of civil liberties.
At the same time, there is no need to pretend that every organization positioning against BJP is committed to liberal democracy. Most of them have extremely troubling records of their own and needless to say there is plenty of political opportunism.
But civil liberties are not conditional on ideological agreement. We can defend the rights of protesters without endorsing their leaders or politics or every allegation they make.
Anyone who claims that the current Election commissioner is not biased is just sticking their head in the sand or has not been following what has been going on for the last few years.
At Centre for Liberty, we support the right to peaceful protests, the demand for the resignation of Gyanesh Kumar, the demand for better accountability, more transparency and proper institutional mechanisms to ensure a bias-free Election Commission .
We also condemn the Indian government's brutal treatment of protestors, the harassment of journalists/the indiscriminate shutdowns of the internet, violation of civil liberties, illegal confiscation and searching of mobile phones, police brutality and illegal restrictions of trains/metro (despite the Supreme Court's directions against blanket restrictions on train/metro services).
Last week at the protest held in Vijayawada where a diverse group of people and members from various political parties participated, from congress, left parties, independents etc. CFL team also participated and issued a statement to the media as well. Doesn't mean we endorse the parties who were protesting, just specifically the issue at hand.
When we unearthed a corruption scandal in Andhra Pradesh, we did an all party meeting and invited everyone and some left parties including the Communist party members showed up. Does that mean those parties now endorse free market capitalism or libertarian ideas or our entire platform? no they were just lending support to a specific issue.
So unequivocally making Centre for Liberty's and my personal stance on this issue clear and on record. Also a lot of work we do is mostly offline so I don't get time to update every single thing here. But i will definitely clarify our stance when asked.
‼️Urgent: missing person from INA Market protest ‼️If anyone has seen someone with blonde dyed hair and eyebrow piercing, please DM @/yapkiak or @/miraghosh !!
Jean Dreze: “We are defending the right to protest, right to assemble, right to free expression, right to vote…these are all basic democratic rights…” Gets whisked away by Delhi Police.
Because Modi thinks that all the security forces are needed in Delhi to violently suppress democratic dissent. While Manipur continues to see deaths even today. Eight dead today. Well done Modi. This is what you really are.

I just sat in quite an unbelievable meeting with the President of India.
We presented our memorandum to her outlining PM Modi and HM Amit Shah’s gross subversion of India’s electoral system and seeking CEC Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation. I was shocked that the President did not deny Vote Chori.
Instead, she asked us to bring her proof. We will bring her a mountain of it. The INDIA bloc will gladly submit every piece of evidence before her.
We welcome her assurance that she will examine the matter and take action.
