Why do people that arent full-time league care about their rank so much?

Before i was a streamer, and i was stuck in plat i never cared if i won or lost, i just played to have fun, queue up garen and sprint at enemy plat player who has no clue what he is doing.

But nowdays i get so many people on my stream daily telling me they are sad cuz they lost their rank and wanna quit but they cant.

It just makes me kinda sad cuz league of legends in the end is a game, and games are supposed to be escape from reality and a way for us to have fun, if the only reason u open league is to "grind rank" and not even have fun while doing it why bother?

Im curious behind the reasons some people have, goals they set for themselves? Not wanting to be worse than their friends at a video game? Do some people actually get judged behind the funny rank on their league profile?
