Today, during Uganda’s Labour Day celebrations, Mr. Ali Ssekatawa, Director Legal and Corporate Affairs, PAU, received a Presidential Recognition Award for his outstanding contribution to the development of Uganda’s oil and gas sector.

Mr Ssekatawa was part of the distinguished government technical team that led the negotiation and conclusion of the commercial and legal frameworks underpinning Uganda’s landmark oil projects, culminating in the Final Investment Decision (FID) of over USD 15 billion in 2022, and the first tranche financial closure for EACOP in 2025. He has also been instrumental in countering the negative narrative against Uganda’s oil and gas developments, defending the project against international and local opposition to keep Uganda’s energy future on track.

Also recognised were Mr. Geoffrey Ogwang, Director Midstream, @MEMD_Uganda Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development; Mr. John Bosco Habumugisha, General Manager, @EACOP_ EACOP Ltd; and Mr. Gilbert Kamuntu, Chief Commercial Officer, @UNOC_UG Uganda National Oil Company, for their shared role in leading the government technical team that delivered the legal and commercial structures underpinning Uganda’s oil projects, and for their efforts in advancing the financial closure of EACOP in 2025.

Their distinguished service above self has significantly advanced Uganda’s energy security and economic independence. 👏🇺🇬

The University Secretary, Mr. Vincent K. Kwatampora, opened the training by calling for a cooperation model to dismantle departmental silos and build a culture of collective responsibility.

He emphasized that this training is necessary to synchronize the efforts of various units from planning and finance to the Legal Office ensuring that every department understands its role in the @MbararaUST institutional growth.

In his welcome remarks, the University Secretary, Mr. Vincent K. Kwatampora, underscored that the active participation of Deans and Heads of Departments is a necessity for the successful rollout of the Academic, Administrative and Compliance Frameworks.

As @MbararaUST’s accounting officer, he emphasized that these frameworks are the primary drivers of MUST’s strategic vision and are essential for maintaining the institutional integrity required for sustainable growth.

We reject the misleading use of University imagery to frame these statistics and call for immediate retraction and ethical reporting.

MUST remains committed to scientific accuracy and the wellbeing of our students and staff.

I represented H.E. @KagutaMuseveni at the launch of the construction of the Ugx 180bn Mbarara University College of Health Sciences campus.

The President commended MUST for staying focused on STEM courses, which are vital for national development. He noted that Mbarara’s training of medical officers and its groundbreaking research stand out.

For me, when we speak of NRM gains, MUST is one of them. It is a major national achievement—one we must protect and build upon. Come January 15th, it will be protected. And Prof. Jack Pen-Mogi Nyeko, the university chancellor, explained how the university was birthed from the President’s strategic vision a few years after he assumed office.

I am proud that this structure will be built by a government agency, the National Housing and Construction Company (NHCCL). I encourage all government agencies to support government enterprises, as they have proven that they can deliver quality.

He highlighted the importance of proactive engagement between universities and government. He emphasized that universities must focus on offering transformative courses with the necessary staff, infrastructure, and research capacity, prioritizing quality over quantity for sustainable growth.
