Like every year, the ATP will celebrate a few recently retired players at the Nitto ATP Finals tomorrow:
Juan Sebastian Cabal & Robert Farah
Kyle Edmund
Wesley Koolhof
Matwe Middelkoop
Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi
Albert Ramos-Vinolas
Diego Schwartzman
Antwerp 2016
R1: beat Marchenko (65) 7-6(7) 7-6(5)
R2: beat Ferrer (15) 6-1 3-6 7-6(3)
QF: beat Seppi (100) 6-3 6-4
SF: lost to Gasquet (19) 6-3 5-7 2-6
Kyle reached his first ATP SF by beating former world no. 3 David Ferrer on the way!
@cfcj_j Yeah brilliant performance, and then to back it up with a win over an established home player in Isner, superb. Can’t believe it was 9 years ago
US Open 2016
R1: beat Gasquet (15) 6-2 6-2 6-3
R2: beat Escobedo (201) 7-5 6-4 6-4
R3: beat Isner (21) 6-4 3-6 6-2 7-6(5)
R4: lost to Djokovic (1) 2-6 1-6 4-6
Kyle’s first time in the second week of a slam, and he beat two former top 10 players en route in style!
Unfortunately this turned out to be Kyle’s last hurrah at the top level. He did make QF in Acapulco just after, taking out Lopez and Auger-Aliassime, but Covid followed by the start of major injury issues meant that he only managed one more win that year, at the US Open vs Bublik
New York 2020
R1: beat Uchiyama (97) 7-5 6-4
R2: beat Koepfer (94) 6-2 6-4
QF: beat Kwon (84) 3-6 6-2 7-6(5)
SF: beat Kecmanovic (54) 6-1 6-4
F: beat Seppi (98) 7-5 6-1
A dominant week of aggressive tennis to lift his second ATP title, dropping just one set en route! (1/2)
Davis Cup 2019
RR: beat Kukushkin (67) 6-3 6-3
QF: beat Kohlschreiber (79) 6-3 7-5
SF: beat Lopez (62) 6-3 7-6(3)
Fantastic tennis from Kyle in Malaga to help GB reach the Davis Cup SF, where they narrowly lost to Nadal’s Spain after Kyle put them 1-0 up by beating Lopez
the top 100 at the time, as it proved his ability on clay and secured him a place in the Davis Cup Final team for Great Britain (as a debutant). Kyle ended the year as a Davis Cup champion! (2/2)
