The govt's Student Loan Plan 2 repayment freeze in April 2027 must be reversed. It isn't moral.
I'm concerned that my debate with Kemi Badenoch this morning distracts from the most immediate problem. In April 2027 Rachel Reeves will freeze the Plan 2 student loan threshold until 2030 which by then will increase graduate repayments by £300/yr more.
This is effectively a unilateral negative breach of the student loan contract. Students were told the threshold would rise with average earnings. No commercial lender would be allowed to do this. The govt shouldn't do it either.
Changing the terms of future students loans is a political decision - people may not like it but it is transparent. Negatively changing the terms of contracts already signed, and long in place, is a breach of natural justice.
@MahyarTousi I mean the debt is there, the money is owed and it has to be paid. It’s naive to think this wasn’t going to happen.
They should be judged on this position by the next election if the debt hasn’t been paid down.
JUST IN: 🇺🇸🏳️⚧️ US President Trump officially bans biological males from competing in women's sports.

@RupertLowe10 My partner runs a beauty salon, which has been a staple in the community she’s in for the last 5 years.
VAT is ruining her business, only being around £3k over the threshold she has to raise prices by 20% . It’s driven customers away.
She will be closing later this year…..
@berwick53@gridcustomersuk Yeah I’ve been meaning to get it replaced for a while now just never got around to it and now I’m paying the price!
Thanks for the thoughtful message though, much appreciated!
34% of the vote wins a super-majority.
4 million votes only gets 4 seats of representation.
Where 3 million votes wins 70 seats for a different party.
First Past the Post is broken.
I'm not asking for cuts to the NHS budgets. Obviously not.
That money needs to be spent better and more efficiently.
Wasteful spending could be used to increase Nurses wages.
I used to work for the NHS in a business services branch. We were NHS, not the private sector.
Our total organisation budget was set by NHS England with internal department budgets decided by the organisation I worked for.
REFORM UK WILL TAKE AN AXE TO WHITEHALL AND SAVE BILLIONS ON EXTRAVAGANT WASTE. TOP BUSINESS PEOPLE WILL BE APPOINTED TO REDUCE CIVIL SERVICE PROFLIGACY!
NHS England would cut the organisations budget if it was not fully utilised in the previous financial year which incentivises this wasteful spending by managers.
There is massive, wasteful spending of taxpayer money across all public services and it needs to stop.
