I spoke with Assembly Speaker Pro Tem Josh Lowenthal inside the Capitol for a different story but mentioned the conflicts.

Not quite a formal campaign event, I ended up being the only reporter there and got to spend time asking students what they liked about Kiley.

"Independent."

They were divided on Trump. Not big on the other side, either. The independent rebrand got their attention.
