This campaign exceeded that benchmark and is currently earning more than 42% of the vote as ballots continue to be counted.

California manages a $325+ billion state budget. It has never conducted a full, top-to-bottom audit of its social services system. The EDD fraud scandal alone cost the state an estimated $20 to $31 billion. Nobody lost their job. Nobody showed the receipts.

Fiscal Transparency: Time to Pull the Plug on California’s Money Pit | LIVE @ReformCalif w/ @carldemaio

California taxpayers have been told for years that High-Speed Rail is just one more check away from success. The problem? The checks keep clearing, but the promises never do.

As State Controller, I will do what Sacramento insiders refuse to do: follow the law.

If the High-Speed Rail Authority cannot prove compliance with Proposition 1A—including demonstrating that projected revenues can cover operating costs—then taxpayers shouldn’t be forced to keep funding a project that can’t pass its own test. The Controller has a duty to safeguard public dollars, not rubber-stamp waste.

And High-Speed Rail isn’t the only place Californians deserve answers.

Every county, every agency, and every NGO receiving taxpayer money should be subject to full transparency. If public dollars are being spent, the public deserves to know where every penny goes.

No more blank checks. No more excuses. No more hiding spending behind bureaucracy.

California doesn’t have a revenue problem. It has an accountability problem. And it’s time someone started auditing Sacramento.
