"You can resolve to live your life with integrity. Let your credo be this: Let the lie come into the world, let it even triumph. But not through me." -Alexander Solzhenitsyn
There seems to be a decent 2 hr or less movie here where you just kinda roll your eyes during the cheesy domestic storyline.
No, Cameron feels like he wants to swing for the epic scope of some kind of sweeping family narrative. Such a miscalculation
I'm like 1.5 hrs into AVATAR: FIRE AND ASH, which is still less than halfway through. This franchise continues to boggle my mind. The tech and spectacle remains wild - but the story, already the worst part of the first one, just gets more and more difficult to sit through
Watched INSIDE OUT 2 tonight. It's depiction of the many emotions fighting for control and priority got me thinking:
One helpful (though imperfect) way to look at Christianity's most fundamental and basic ethical codes, like the Beatitudes and the Ten Commandments...
...is that they discipline our emotions by truth and love. Though teach us their boundaries, restraints, and proper places.
It would be fascinating to see an alternate universe version where INSIDE OUT depicted the struggle to learn and follow these codes/guides:
1. Every student arrives at grade level academically
2. Complete autonomy over curriculum & grading
3. School culture & admin on board with classroom management (Not on your list)
Teachers, you can only choose 3:
1. 4-day workweek
2. Unlimited classroom budget
3. $25,000 raise
4. Maximum class size of 15
5. Full-time classroom aide
6. Every student arrives at grade level academically
7. Complete autonomy over curriculum & grading
WONKA is a fascinating cultural piece. It feels so anchored in 50s-70s fantasy family entertainment, yet also strives hard to feel like a contemporary piece.
It's not always working, but this contemporary moment made me laugh out loud.
@Carson_Troutman There was a post credit scene with her where they tease a future story with her. It's pretty incredible they left that entire thread open though in the main story
There's a song in MOANA 2 that I was convinced was a villain manifesto (like "Shiny" in the first one) that was all about giving in, throwing off restraint, and getting lost in order to find your way.
Turns out it was supposed to be a serious "give the hero guidance" song.
I'm watching this low budget spy film with Aaron Eckhart and I am wondering if they couldn't afford a longer tie for this on the right? Interesting choice
I have seen a lot of poor exposition scenes in action films before, but this one is right up there. How incompetent or cynical about your audience do you have to be to let this dialogue slide? It has other charms, but this from THE BEEKEEPER is just insanity.
She had the analysts take a look. There must be a place running the call centers. That's where they should look.
Somehow:
1) that's treated like a real detective driven revelation
2) that was considered more in depth than 2 years of FBI investigations
"you're on caller."
"Hi Dave, I need some help, I am $25 million in debt."
"What did you spend that on?"
"Large fast 18 year old football players."
"Well, first, stop doing that. Immediately."
"I'm afraid I can't do that."
"Why?"
"Because they're On3 blue chip 5 stars, and Texas might hire them."
"Can Texas afford them?"
"Yes, and that's exactly my problem. I need you to help me make it against the law for Texas to afford them so I can hire them."
I finally got around to watching 2023's BARBIE last night. I've got a ton of thoughts three years late, but let me just say that the Matchbox Twenty "Push" joke got one of the biggest laughs out of me in years.
I finished it. While the act 2&3 have their faults - they generally live up to the promise and tone of the 1st. I'd give the whole thing a (B ). Which is a strong score for something like this. It's like the LEGO MOVIE was filtered through the JUMANJI remake & NAPOLEON DYNAMITE.
I sat down to finally watch THE MINECRAFT MOVIE and it's a different film from the "game film cash in" I expected.
I've only watched the 1st act, so it might all go downhill, but it's the funniest and most refreshing first act I've seen in a long while.
This is not a joke.
