First class BSc (Hons) in adult nursing. This picture shows laughter, and a strong sense of achievement. What it doesn’t show is, endlessly studying, early commutes as a non-driver during the most challenging circumstances the NHS has faced. I’m proud, but it’s been a journey!
The UK are miles behind the US in regard to financial literacy.
But can you made a decent cup of tea?
Can you confidently ask “how would you like it” and visually see every shade of tea, and how much milk proportion is needed?
It was at this moment I started educating myself on financial literacy.
My dad has kindly given me £150 for my birthday. He said son, go and get yourself something nice.
Maybe some new shoes or running vests.
I thank him, and invested the £150 into an All World tracker. I would prefer the £150 to compound for 30 years and be worth £2617.
This is currently my monthly salary, the £150 dopamine purchase will be forgotten.
Mindset.
Consistency, long term time horizon and compounding.
Stumbled across this investor with an incredible start with £26,905 invested at 20 years old.
They are looking to invest £1000 a month. Doesn’t sound impressive? He drives a 2010 Vauxhall Corsa with 110,000 miles, and lives life ‘poor’ to invest the difference.
This individual at 60 years old will have:
£4,100,00 (8% annual growth)
£7,200,00 (10% annual growth)
The key? Starting early, spending less to invest more.
During the Covid 19 lockdown, whilst I was going for my one hour a day exercise, someone invested £50,000 into $NVDA and watched this turn into £2,000,000.
In the UK, you receive your state pension at 67. (By the time I get there, it’ll be 80 the way it’s going 👀)
This means I’m 40 years away. For most, this is very daunting (it is). So what am i doing about it?
Assuming a 10% return (the S&P 500 historical yearly returns) I’m investing £500-£700 a month into an ETF Tracker with a long term mindset.
I currently have £4900 at aged 27.
By age 30 I’m projected to have £21,000
By age 35: £110,000
By age 40: £241,000
By age 42 the market will return my current yearly salary just in gains (£39,000).
By age 45: £460,000
By age 50: £823,000
By age 52: a millionaire.
By age 57: my million has doubled. I’m still 10 years from receiving my state pension.
With 10 more years of growth until ‘I’m allowed to retire’ my 2 Million grows to just under 5 MILLION.
Remember all tax free, from just £700 a month. You choice when you wish to retire.
