Zimbabwe’s biggest public hospital group, Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals, has been operating in surgical emergency mode for a week after running out of a critical anaesthetic drug, Propofol.
Emergency surgical mode means that the hospital will not perform operations unless they are emergencies. All scheduled operations have been put on hold, and surgeons are only carrying out life-saving procedures.
The shortage has disrupted surgical services and highlights the deepening crisis in Zimbabwe’s public healthcare system, where even essential medicines and medical supplies are increasingly difficult to obtain. The crisis has severely disrupted operations.
In South Africa, a 20 ml vial of propofol costs only about US$0.80, while a 50 ml vial costs approximately US$2.22 at public-sector procurement prices.
This crisis shows how President Mnangagwa’s government has lost sight of important issues, focusing instead on things such as term extensions and maintaining its grip on power while patients die.
Zimbabwe is a country that has gone for more than four years without a single working radiotherapy machine for cancer treatment. Recently, a machine that was acquired has continued to break down, meaning cancer patients are still being denied access to this critical treatment.
Public hospitals also lack dialysis machines. Chitungwiza Hospital, one of the country’s five main central hospitals, does not have a single dialysis machine, yet it is services over 2 million people in Chitungwiza and Mashonaland East.
The level of disregard for human life, incompetence, and corruption has reached frightening levels.

Some guy tried to sell me a religious story today, I had time so I told him my own story. I made it clear that I do not buy into fabricated tales designed to manipulate people’s emotions, and if anything, my own experiences have taught me to question everything that is presented as unquestionable truth.
I love my parents, but I love my mother more and my dad knew that, and he was ok with it. What else can I do when my mother was a Chihera?
Being a Chihera son is a flex, my mother built me and shaped everything that I am today. Shout out to all the Cheheras and our uncles the Mhofus.
I always tell my family that winning a scholarship to study in England was not a flex. My mother won a scholarship to study in America in 1975, but she could not go because she fell sick, a story for my book.
What matters is that I am a product of Chihera, and that alone is the greatest flex of my life.
I want to advise young folks. Ten years ago I went to bury my uncle, my mother’s brother. I realised that my grandparents’ graves were run down, so I organised my siblings and cousins and we fixed all of them with new tombstones.
Guys, when you see me drive a Maserati, fly business class, win awards, it is blessings from above. Honour your ancestors and stop this hero worshipping of fake prophets, because the real power is in the people who came before you.
I love my parents, I love my grandparents Chin’ono and Dhiriza, and I love my great grandfather Mukusha. Do the same!
It is funny that Germany, a country in Europe, is publicly standing with South Africa against Trump’s white-genocide lies, yet African leaders are behaving as if they have lost their minds and their voices, unable to simply back another African country under baseless attack from a deranged bully.
The very same African leaders then turn around and pretend to be pan-Africanists at public forums.
No wonder so many South Africans dismiss these fashion pan-Africanists, because when real solidarity is required, they vanish into silence while outsiders show the courage they lack.
I got these sweet potato crisps from Harare on Monday, brought to me by a relative. They are being made by a Zimbabwean entrepreneur named Ronald Museka, and they are genuinely good. They are fresh, crispy, and full of flavour.

Government meetings are being cancelled and rescheduled for later dates following the announcement of an indefinite stay away by war veterans leader and former Member of Parliament, Blessed “Bombshell” Geza, this morning.
Geza has become the face of resistance against Mnangagwa’s corrupt rule that has resulted in collapsed hospitals, 95% unemployment, highest inflation in the world and more.
PLEASE RETWEET, THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT
This leaked document is a Cabinet memorandum from Zimbabwe’s Minister of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs, Ziyambi Ziyambi. It proposes undemocratic constitutional amendments with huge implications for Zimbabwe.
These include having Emmerson Mnangagwa as a life president, because at 86, if he gets another three years in office after his term ends in 2028, he will be 92 years old in 2031.
When I broke the story about Members of Parliament being given land in Mabelreign to block any impeachment attempt and to assist the Zimbabwean dictator in securing a term extension, one that would also benefit the crooked MPs, Jonathan Moyo wrote a long article accusing me of misinforming and disinforming the public.
Many, including some who see themselves as opposition, danced to his propaganda piece. I wonder what they will say now that this leaked document confirms my reporting and the indirect intentions of the land grab.
According to this document, Mnangagwa and his surrogates plan to extend the terms of office for the President, Parliament, and Councils by up to three years, through a two-thirds parliamentary vote.
This is why the MPs were illegally given land, it is greenway land, and the allocation was unlawful and had nothing to do with the 2013 land offers to MPs.
As I reported at the time, they plan to postpone elections for that duration.
They also intend to repeal term limit protections in the Zimbabwean Constitution.
They also want to remove Section 328(7), which currently prohibits the retroactive application of term limit amendments.
This means they are attempting to remove a constitutional safeguard that prevents leaders from benefiting from changes to term limits after they are already in office just like they did with the disgraced Zimbabwean Chief Justice, Luke Malaba.
This change would allow the amendments to apply to current officeholders, effectively giving Mnangagwa and the crooked MPs a chance to benefit from extended terms.
They also want to shift voter registration responsibilities from the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) to the Registrar of Births and Deaths.
The direct consequence of this is the postponement of elections by up to three years, which of course is undemocratic.
Stripping ZEC of its voter registration mandate undermines the independence and integrity of the electoral process in Zimbabwe.
The panic that set in after I exposed the land grab in Mabelreign, and the hopeless defences that followed, were clearly not only aimed at labelling me a misinformer, but also revealed the anger felt by the architects of this crooked, unconstitutional, and undemocratic attempt to drag Zimbabwe into becoming a real banana republic when the land documents were leaked to me.
There was a coordinated attack involving Zimbabwe’s Minister of Information, Jenfan Muswere, ZANUPF trolls, and intellectuals for hire praising Jonathan Moyo’s propaganda piece, along with many others who continue to benefit from this crooked regime. Sadly, some naive and opportunistic opposition activists joined in the attack backed by a fake news website.
I now ask the government’s chief propagandist, @nickmangwana, and his various surrogates to tell the nation whether this leaked document is true or not. Silence will confirm the document’s authenticity.
I also ask the opposition MPs in parliament if they will push back or they will grab the opportunity to drink from this poisoned well?
Good morning people of Zimbabwe, I hope I find you well, I wish to announce to you that our plan to remove Emmerson by way of impeachment is progressing very well as enshrined in the Constitution of Zimbabwe. We have so far negotiated with a considerable number of Parliamentarians who are in total and undoubted agreement with the move to get Emmerson out of the esteemed Office of the President of Zimbabwe because of the reasons I mentioned on my address last Wednesday, I assure you that we will get it done, have yourselves a good weekend.
Let us do this today dear Zimbabweans.

One thing's clear from talking to residents around Rockford and St Fintan's - people need a change from FF & FG. Many people are pointing to the housing crisis as a major issue, which the government has no desire to solve. It's time to end 100 years of Finne Fáil and Fine Gael.
I don’t know what to say about this statement by Zimbabwe’s Information Tatenda Mavetera and Communication Technology (ICT) ministry, suggesting that WhatsApp groups for business should require licensing, the charge is US$50.
It doesn’t end there, these WhatsApp groups should appoint a government trained and certified Data Protection Officer. (DPO)🤣🤣🤣
Zimbabwe has been a banana republic for a while, but I never thought it would sink to this level of absurdity!
Mnangagwa’s regime has stolen billions of dollars, with Mnangagwa himself being the central character in the looting, and now they are charging people for WhatsApp groups.
This is as ridiculous as it is sad, showing us that when we thought the bar was on the floor, in Zimbabwe it is in the basement!

Their imprisonment is an affront to democracy and justice. We demand an end to these oppressive tactics by Emmerson Mnangagwa and his ZANU-PF party.
🔸Does Zimbabwe have a Minister of Energy? What does he do? How can we have more hours of loadshedding daily than we have electricity? Why do suburbs go for weeks with no power because of a simple fault? Why are residents expected to buy cables and transformers to secure power supply? When residents buy solar kits as a back up, why does the ZESA black out so much that it serves as the back up? How are mines expected to run without a reliable supply of electricity? How can you have a power crisis so large that it interferes with every citizen’s ability to function normally? Why is this public emergency being ignored?
Tell your ZESA story in the comments.

Zimbabwe’s brutal dictator and tyrant, Emmerson Mnangagwa, is giving a State of the Nation Address today in the midst of a collapsed economy with the highest inflation in the world and a 95% unemployment rate, also the worst globally.
The corrupt despot will be delivering this address while supermarkets like Food World are shutting down due to Zimbabwe’s local currency, the worst-performing currency in the world, the ZIG.
All of this has been caused by the looting of public funds by Mnangagwa’s criminal networks through inflated public procurement tenders, with some work not even done let alone completed.
To continue their theft, Mnangagwa’s regime prints more ZIG, increasing the money supply, which ends up chasing fewer goods and creating inflation.
So today, Mnangagwa will attempt to address a problem he created, and as usual, he will blame everyone else except his corrupt self!
When retailers like Food World shut down, more jobs are lost, and the collapsed economy, or what is left of it, dies a little more each day.
The elephant in Zimbabwe’s room is the ZIG. It has clearly failed and it is only a matter of time before government will have to abandon it, as it did before with the Z$, bond notes, bearer cheques and RTGS.
The sooner this happens the better because in the interim keeping this currency on artificial life support is doing the formal sector of the economy incalculable damage.
Zimbabwean senior opposition leader Amos Chibaya was arrested last week and granted bail yesterday.
However, as soon as prison officials released him, Mnangagwa’s notorious Law and Order police section arrested him again last night!
This is a country in economic tatters with the highest inflation in the world and 95% unemployment rate, yet the government is focused on pursuing and punishing opposition leaders using captured state institutions.
This time, Chibaya was arrested for allegedly inciting public violence, when all he did was read court date announcements to his party supporters, who had gathered to show solidarity with another group of imprisoned opposition and civil society leaders.
This is the kind of behaviour that has turned the Mnangagwa regime into a pariah state!
Zimbabwe will never thrive under this thug president.
It will remain stagnant, unable to prosper, and will continue to put pressure on regional countries as its people look for better opportunities.
I feel sorry for foreign ambassadors who support Mnangagwa.
Each time they report to their capitals that things might improve, Mnangagwa does something foolish again!
The repeated imprisonment of Amos Chibaya is just one of those acts from Mnangagwa’s playbook that shows nothing will change as long as this tyrant and his thugs remain in power!
The only thing that keeps Mnangagwa going is the lack of a united opposition front, that is what it will take to deal with this mess and not individual political pursuits!
To my South African friends and followers on this timeline who are always asking me why Zimbabweans come to South Africa to do menial jobs when they have land in Zimbabwe. Below is your answer.
What you are reading in the document in the quoted tweet explains what went wrong with land reform in Zimbabwe.
Land is given to those connected to ZANUPF, but they are not necessarily farmers.
They then rent the farms to white farmers who were kicked off the land, so what happened in Zimbabwe is not land reform, but thugs taking over land and renting it out instead of giving it to people with expertise to use it.
In a normal society, a judge who is not a farmer would not have been given land only to rent it out to the real farmer.
This makes food in Zimbabwe more expensive because the farmer has to pay rent to someone who produces nothing and got the land for free without paying a penny.
Judges receive these farms as a thank you for passing illegal rulings against the regime’s political opponents!
Land is in the hands of the wrong people.
If the real farmer had been given access to this state land, the cost of potatoes would be cheaper because they wouldn’t have to factor in rent paid to the "farmer-owner."
Land reform will have to be redone in Zimbabwe in a way that is sustainable, fair, and economic.
What ZANUPF did is akin to invading a plane without knowing how to fly it, then asking the pilot to use it for a while in exchange for rentals.
The real farmer can’t develop the farm because it is not in their name, as they can be kicked off by the official owner.
Land is in the hands of a ZANUPF mafia that charges protection fees/rentals to white farmers to allow them to continue farming. This practice perpetuates historical inequalities and has negative economic consequences for the country.
The cost of food production rises due to this added layer of rent, and the overall productivity of the agricultural sector suffers because experienced farmers are not given the opportunity to fully utilise their skills and resources.
A sustainable and equitable land reform process would prioritise allocating land to those with the knowledge and experience to use it effectively.
This would not only improve agricultural productivity but also help address historical injustices and empower previously disadvantaged communities.
Today, the majority of the previously disadvantaged are still disadvantaged.
I was one of the top three Boer goat breeders in Zimbabwe from around 2015 doing it at my ancestral plot.
A former governor for Mashonaland East asked me to join ZANUPF if I wanted land. Of course, I politely said no.
The judge can’t own land, it is state land. She has a lease, and because she is part of the ruling elite, she can rent it out and make money from something she didn’t pay a penny for.
Her husband, Tarisai Ziyambi, was also a government minister.
If people who can produce and have the production expertise have to beg people who can’t produce for land, it is a Banana Republic.
Zimbabwe is a crime scene!!!!
A Zimbabwean who believed the false claims by their president and the central bank governor that the local currency, the ZIG, would gain strength against the US Dollar is 44% poorer this morning after last week’s massive ZIG devaluation!
Zimbabweans have lost their savings three times before, and this was the fourth time last week.
It means a Zimbabwean who had the equivalent of US$71 in local currency on Thursday morning woke up on Friday morning with only US$40 worth of the ZIG after the devaluation.
Imagine millions of people losing almost half of their worth and yet life goes on as normal?
Someone asked me why Tuku’s private life and the “Svipa Dandy” nonsense are trending in Zimbabwe among the youths after such an economic tragedy has impoverished ordinary people, especially the youth.
I have no idea why Zimbabweans who are more concerned about Tuku’s private or silly sayings are like that in the midst of economic Armageddon, I have no idea.
Last week’s local currency devaluation means everything is now more expensive this week than it was last week and it also means small businesses who were accepting the local currency are today broke and shutting down because they can’t restock goods because they lost their money’s value by 44%.
This underscores the vulnerability of the general population to economic shocks and policy decisions that are beyond their control and are made by corrupt leaders!
I also want to remind Zimbabwe’s youths not to be victims of sideshows that make you forget about the real show, just saying!
The real story today is that millions of our people are 44% poorer than they were a few days ago!
The fact that some people are more concerned about celebrity gossip or trivial matters in the midst of such economic turmoil and tragedy is both shocking and concerning.
It may be a reflection of the widespread sense of helplessness and resignation among the population, as they feel powerless to effect change in the face of ongoing corruption, mismanagement by their leaders and a captured opposition which has incompetent leaders too.
