Full Timeline:

• Vrabel is hired amid controversy after Mularkey firing.

• Vrabel leads team to 4 consecutive winning seasons, AFC Championship, 1-seed, earns COTY.

• Horrible, league-worst draft decisions obliterate depth/talent of the roster.

• Vrabel’s favorite player is traded after Vrabel says that player is not going anywhere as long as he’s the head coach.

• GM is fired after draft decisions begin leading to losses, and Vrabel’s favorite player embarrasses the franchise.

• Bring in a GM (who I like a lot, don’t get it confused) without working with Vrabel throughout the hiring process, effectively forcing a marriage.

• Vrabel’s former team clearly interested in him as a replacement for Belichick.

• Years of incompetency unable to be solved in one offseason with limited cap space.

• Franchise is finally in a position with cap space and draft capital to make meaningful improvements.

• Rather than getting something for Vrabel via a trade, he is simply fired.

If you keep all this news under wraps, if you approach the situation differently, if you use the media to your advantage rather than the entire organization leaking like a sieve, you almost certainly receive compensation for a coach of Vrabel’s caliber.

If this outcome (firing Vrabel) was even a possibility, you keep it airtight and you carry on with business as usual.

Do not overthink it. The last two years, this week, this move, and this outcome are a complete and total embarrassment to this franchise.
