Can we take a moment to appreciate how humble SB19 truly is? When dwta and Justin won Folk Song of the Year at this year’s Filipino Music Awards, Justin didn’t try to steal the spotlight, he let dwta have her well-deserved moment, because that recognition was hers and hers alone.

And when SB19 was named Concert of the Year winner, they immediately called up Direk Pao, asked him to speak on their behalf, and even handed him the trophy. That simple act spoke volumes about who they are, grounded, respectful, and always grateful to the people behind their success.

That’s the true mark of humility. SB19 has never been about outshining others; they believe in rising with everyone. They know when to give credit, when to step back, and when to lift others up. Awards are never their ultimate goal, they care more about the impact they make and the people they bring along on their journey.

Allow me to drop my two cents on why SB19 rightfully earned all six of their Filipino Music Awards wins.

Let’s start with the obvious:
Two of those awards were fan-voted. Self-explanatory — it’s the people’s choice. If your faves didn’t win, maybe their fans just didn’t show up.
🏆 People’s Choice: Artist of the Year
🏆 People’s Choice: Song of the Year — “Dungka”

Now, for the rest: FMA clarified that all other awards were judged by the official FMA jury, while the Grand Awards combined jury deliberation with metric success — balancing artistic merit and data-driven results.

FMA defines this award as recognizing standout songwriting, melodies, and widespread appeal.

Standout Songwriting:
“Dungka” — short for Doon Ka — is classic SB19: fearless, unapologetic, and layered with meaning. It’s a bold “if you don’t vibe with us, doon ka” statement that rejects crab mentality, hate, and baseless criticism.
Fun fact: “Dungka” was actually a diss track Pablo wrote after someone insulted Josh. Call it what it is — poetry in motion.

Melodies:
Catchy? Check. Anthemic? Double check. It fuses pop and hip-hop with SB19’s signature theatrical flair. Even non-fans can’t deny—it’s an earworm through and through.

Widespread Appeal:
“Dungka” took over TikTok, school performances, and even random play dances in Korea. If you missed that, that’s on you.
