I don't know what's with me as of late, but it's like my own body wants me to perish, and I don't know why. I wake up feeling miserable everyday, and nothing I do is helping. *Sigh* Might as well take a walk to figure things out...
@ShinyHaunter05@Acrobot322 And speaking of Reggie, I'm surprised he didn't call out Paul for his awful treatment of his Pokemon, which makes no sense, since Reggie is essentially Paul's legal guardian, since we never see their parents on screen.
@ShinyHaunter05@Acrobot322 I understand that the writers wanted to write a rival that was the opposite of Ash, but there's definitely signs that there's more to Paul than just that. Not only is he the opposite of Ash, but also his brother, Reggie.
@ShinyHaunter05@Acrobot322 You need to dig deep into Paul and Reggie's brotherly dynamic to understand my points. How would you feel if you told your brother that the way they're treating their Pokemon is wrong, only for them to completly ignore you time and time again and get more abusive as a result?
@ShinyHaunter05@Acrobot322 I see your point, but it took Paul years to finally realize that showing kindness to his Pokemon works out in the end. And all the while, he hurt his own Pokemon and strained his relations with his brother. In other words, Paul may have changed for the better, but 1/2
@ShinyHaunter05@Acrobot322 What irks me is to why Paul has this abhorent cruel side to him. Even in Journeys, when he's shown to actaully care for his Pokemon, he still has said cruel side to him. Although less in some areas, showing character development, it's still there. And don't get me started on 1/2
@ShinyHaunter05@Acrobot322 And those emotions led Paul to hurt not only his Pokemon but also those close to him, like his brother. The way I see things, he basically has no respect for anyone and shows signs of juvenile psychopathy.
@ShinyHaunter05@Acrobot322 "Paul always had a cruel side to him..."
Isn't that a major problem for someone Paul's age? If compare Paul to Ash's other rivals, all of them pretty much more colorful in their personality than Paul. Now, before you start with that Paul is the opposite of Ash, none of 1/2
@ShinyHaunter05@Acrobot322 And personally, if I was Paul's parent/legal guardian, and I discovered the way he treated his Pokemon, I would've locked away his gym badges and grounded him from battling until he got his shit together.
@ShinyHaunter05@Acrobot322 Still doesn't explain why Paul treats/treated his Pokemon the way he does. Back to your example of Chimchar, Paul basically let his other Pokemon beat him up in a psychotic attempt to draw out the Blaze ability.
