What an amazing workshop!! I’m grateful that I got to attend. 4 hrs seem to be a luxury for me these days as a new mom of 2 but I learned so much. Thanks again for such great discussions everyone!
Wow! I am so very grateful to @digital_2022#DMCA2022 organizers for the opportunity to share 4 hours today analyzing the pervasive social action of noticing/registering with these stellar people! I hope we can do this again sometime😊 And I really mean that!
My toddler is obsessed with buffalos so we got her a sweatshirt that has a buffalo on it. Every morning when she wakes up, she says “mommy go find the Buffalo right now” I just love how she communicates the urgency here. It can’t wait. Go find it right now!! She’s great.
Went to my postpartum checkup today & the dr talked about the negative aspects of breastfeeding and told me it’s okay to not enjoy it. I really appreciate that. He was considering things from my perspective and not prioritizing the baby over everything.
Ted Lasso is such a well rounded comedic character. Sudeikis’s speech also featured a nice example of over-exposed correction (1’02”), a phenomenon @RucalTeam has studied https://t.co/SIb4hNhXWs
@carolhylo That’s pretty impressive! Honestly CA-ing my toddler’s convo is so much fun. You can see how they acquire sequences but there are also some v unexpected moves that are totally different from how us adults interact. Learning how to interact is learning how to be human!
My toddler’s newly acquired interactional skill is to masquerade requests as invitations and inquiries (“mommy do you want to watch the dinosaur movie”). This is such a good one bc it’s v hard for me to say no bc I’m thinking that she wants to spend time with me. Smart action!
The final stench of pregnancy is emotionally challenging. I’m terrified of upcoming labor pains, sad to lose the physical connection with my baby, excited to hold her, to meet her, and worried that my toddler is going to notice that mommy is always focusing on the baby.
My 2yo has acquired another important interactional skill: updating! She told me what she did at school “I painted” & “I hugged (her friend)”. It’s so cool bc she is reporting her experience that only she has epistemic access to. This skill connects the parent world to her world.
Hooray our @RucalTeam paper is published! 'Published?' 😦 why did I say published 🙄. It's here in early view! Read on to discover what Trump, Kavanaugh, Ariana Grande, Natalie Portman, Pete Buttigieg, and Mike Pence have in common!
My daughter has picked up on ‘doing thinking’ sounds like mmm and uh and I think it’s such an important interaction skill for a 20 mo to have as it shows that her turn is in progress and she is working on providing a relevant next! “What color is this? -mmmm GREEN!”
When socializing my 2yo with nursery rhymes and children’s books, I’m also learning esp as a L2 speaker of Eng. Never in grad school will your profs teach you all the sounds that animals make - who knows frog goes ribbit ribbit and chicken goes cockadoodledo. All news to me.
Just can’t take a break this semester. Worst of all semesters. Covid scare followed by getting a cold plus nonstop pregnancy symptoms. I need my energy back.
Another week another covid case at daycare. I’m excited to spend time with my daughter at home but I’m ready for a vaccine for younger kids. Two years later we are still dealing with work-life balance/boundaries on a daily basis. I’m very tired.
Back to being a full time mom temporarily and unexpectedly. Although I didn’t get anything done, pushed all my meetings and canceled a bunch of things, I missed being with my baby all day. It’s also a totally different experience now that she walks and talks. The best!
Just out of curiosity and also from personal experience, is there any interactional research on how doctors/pediatricians share their personal experience with patients during a visit?
