10 years ago today, Blood Orange's Dev Hynes released 'Freetown Sound.'
The project was written, produced, and performed almost entirely by Hynes himself, and it features guest appearances from Debbie Harry, Nelly Furtado, Carly Rae Jepsen, Kelsey Lu, Empress Of, and writer Ta-Nehisi Coates, among others.
The album takes its name from Freetown, Sierra Leone—the birthplace of Hynes' father. When he announced it on Instagram, he wrote that it was made for everyone told they were "not Black enough, too Black, too queer, not queer the right way."
