Eagles/Falcons 2017: the Underdog Run Begins.
After Carson Wentz went down, the #1 seeded Eagles did something that had never happened before: they opened as underdogs to a 6th seed Falcons who won the NFC the year before. They embraced it.
The offense started slow, but got a massive break when Nick Foles pass bounced off a Falcons DB’s knee and into Torrey Smith’s hands, setting up a crucial end of half FG.
From there, the defense took over. Dominant all game, it delivered one of the most iconic moments in Eagles history: the final goal line stand, with Jalen Mills locking up Julio Jones on 4th and goal.
Eagles won 15–10 and punched their ticket to their first NFC Championship Game since 2008.
There have been multiple reports this year defending Patullo and blaming Hurts for the struggles of the offense. And I think they came from Patullo / those close to him, which is why he had to go. These included reports that:
- Hurts wasn’t running the plays in game like practice.
- His skill set limits the plays the coaches could call.
- The QB told Patullo he won’t run this year.
- the offense would perform better under McKee (which also explains why he had McKee drop back so much to pass, almost to prove that)
- this comment from Sherman
A good question to ask when reading a report is why did it come out, and whose interest does it serve? This video leaves no doubt, to me at least, that Patullo was behind these leaks to save his job. And that, even more than his overall incompetence, is why he needed to go. It also explains why Hurts was so icy towards Patullo in press conferences when other players weren’t, because he likely knew Patullo was the source of the reports.
Wow: Eagles’ OC Kevin Patullo reportedly told Ryan Fitzpatrick that the problems on offense aren’t his fault and that “people don’t know the inner workings”
“People are just so hard on me” 🤯🤯
