I need to remind myself that research progress is not just putting pen to paper and increasing the word count. These valuable activities have motivated me to get back to reading, exploring, and presenting my work🤩
While the sun was out last week, I sat in a park in Bermondsey and started reading a book that I should have read a long while ago. ‘Oye Como Va!’ by Deborah Pacini Hernandez is a truly fascinating read!
In preparation to deliver a paper at the Swansea Uni PGR conference in May, I took part in the training session delivered @PGRSwansea. This motivated me to start putting together my presentation and got me thinking about how to adapt my work for non subject-specific audiences.
Last week, I attended the @LangsLeicester ‘Latinx Studies in the UK’ conference. The field is well-established in the US, and I was thrilled to hear from speakers who are at the forefront of this burgeoning field in the UK.
I thoroughly enjoyed hosting a music masterclass from @CasparMelville for local Sixth Form students. The session addressed transnational music practices and got the students to trace the multilayered “roots and routes” of their favourite music genres 🪘 🥁
Thanks, Caspar!
Very excited to have registered for the Bad Bunny Symposium hosted by @CentroPR. I’ll be participating virtually from the UK, but looking forward to engaging with discourses about one of the biggest names in the industry at the moment!
This #AfricaDay, we celebrate the launch of our brand new BA Africa and Black Diaspora, starting this September 🌍.

Research is not a straight line A-B. Things go wrong. There will be setbacks and failures. And B will become C (and D and E ...). This can be frustrating but that's research and sometimes that's where the breakthrough comes. #PhDchat#ECRchat#postdoc#gradschool#PhDforum
