@GEvans96 Its meant to be heavy handed, its the truth
The rest of the film has alot more subtlety but the concepts here are basic truths that people STILL refuse to believe, it needed to be shoved down their throats
@princess_tude but how is that propaganda? that seems like the opposite no?
Making a bunch of dead people out to be morons who fucked up the planet?
I agree with the last bit, thats an irony thats not lost on me.
@princess_tude Im actually struggling to get the propaganda part of this film tbh because I really just dont see it.
Yes there are aspects of it within the film, mainly around controlling the narrative, but it didnt really change anything iirc.
@princess_tude I think its a mix.
I honestly think the biggest message of the movie is showing the audience why playing the blame game, and idol burning, are pointless and futile in the face of making change.
I think in the end everyone was right, but it didnt really matter anyway.
@qwerty12702@DoctorVive Yeah im not denying there was definitely foul play, but its just a small part of the issue.
There are many factors as to why renewables have had issues and I dont think its fair to say its just oil tycoons
@qwerty12702@DoctorVive And this really doesnt dispute the point that its driven by consumer demand.
You could just as easily say that renewables could have been adopted by consumers, that the demand for cheap and reliable energy from consumers is what kept governments and oil tycoons drilling.
@qwerty12702@DoctorVive problems, either coming from issues interacting with existing infrastructure, or public perception concerns like nuclear.
Also, not only are fossil fuels not the only driver of climate change, but GHG emissions are also not the only driver of climate change/destruction.
@husafell_stone Its amazing how badly you missed the point of this speech.
Makes sense since you have "Raw milk & organs." in your bio.
The film is critiquing you lil bro.
@SanchoSpareRoom@CineMasai_ You fail to see that the movie is critiquing this exact style of blame shifting.
Everyone blames someone else, whether it be corporations, the rich, the prior generation.
But its not true, consumers can change, they just wont; and thats the cardinal sin.
@SanchoSpareRoom@CineMasai_ it is an active selfish choice of the masses, its not just unregulated capital growth.
The movie is 100% correct, vast majority of GHG emissions are consumer driven. Growth is dictated by the consumer, by what is demanded.
And the consumer demands an unsustainable lifestyle.
@NotADebacle@MetaReflexive I agree, however, GHG emissions are not being propped up by the rich, thats just the "Taylor swift uses private jets argument".
Average joes are the ones with the real power in this case, not to say the wealthy shouldnt be shunned for disproportionately contributing though.
@Inscrutableforu@MetaReflexive I do not need your help.
Your entire account is just trying to talk down to people, if you want to have an actual conversation about climate issues, I can educate you, otherwise stop pretending to be wise on the subject.
@Inscrutableforu@MetaReflexive You seem to be very condescending for someone that isnt very capable of grasping basic concepts.
Yes its fiction, but it mirrors the real world, not a complicated idea and that is indeed how most satire works.
If you think Diggers speech isnt applicable to the real world-
