Many thanks to all the children who took part in the Challenge and our summer activities. Keep your eyes open for a montage of the best bits sometime in the coming week or two. 👀

Well, The Summer Reading Challenge officially ended last Saturday, and, after a week of catching final stragglers, Cinnamon the Cat can finally get the nap she's been craving...

It is a work-in-progress, so please be careful around it and avoid handling it if you can, but we would love to hear from you if you have ideas for its decoration!

If you go down to Beavers Community Hub & Library this week, you will see our latest library building project - a new reading den for our toddler visitors! (Full disclosure, it is made of cardboard, and really quite small...)

They also played a version of "Kiss, Marry, Avoid" with some of the books which they have read in the 12 years of their current incarnation!

Friday was Book Club Day here in the UK, and Hounslow's Community Hub & Library Services will be celebrating in our book clubs throughout the month.

Feltham had a cream tea add-on to their normal tea and biscuits - yum!

Brand-new library books: ordered, labelled, and delivered, by our Schools Libraries Services, ready to shelve in a school library near you!

Happy New (academic) Year from the SLS Team.

Back in June - National Crime Reading Month - we asked visitors to the libraries to vote for their favourite Crime Writer.
After rigorous checks, we can now confirm: Agatha Christie is our top crime author!
Honourable mentions to runners up Richard Osman and Michael Connelly.

It's launch day!

From today we are taking registrations for this year's Summer Reading Challenge. The theme is Read to the Beat, so let us know what your favourite background music for reading is; maybe we can make a Hounslow Reading Mixtape!

Don't worry, we've extended the submission period to 11th July. You have two more weeks to finish your design and drop it off at your chosen Community Hub and Library branch!

Happy #NationalBarcodeDay everyone.

The barcode was first patented in the U.S.A in 1952 but it wasn't until the 26th June 1974 that a barcode was first scanned in a shop in Ohio (on a pack of Wrigley's Juicy Fruit gum). #OTD

And now we all use them every single day.
