It's difficult to see the point of school, learning, social skills among others if you don't feel worthy of being alive, receiving protection, care or comfort.

Little Sisters’ ability to manage their physical and mental health and increased engagement over time leads to a higher chance of completing higher educational attainment and thus be more employment ready.

When a child has lived with trauma, they are often surrounded by chaos, violence or dysfunction where feelings escalate very quickly, there are no routines, and life and people are unpredictable.

Homeless youths are more likely to leave school early, which then affects employment opportunities and often leads to criminal behaviour. Early intervention prevents them to getting to a point where they need to go to a crisis service.

By equipping the Little Sisters with crucial survival and life skills, the resilience to overcome challenges, and an environment fostering self-worth, SISTER2sister empowers them to make positive choices for a better future.

Evidence shows that childhood trauma leads to a range of negative outcomes in adult life. Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) shape the brain’s organisation, which, in turn, influences emotional, social, cognitive, and physiological development.

Adolescents who have experienced family and domestic violence are at increased risk of academic failure, dropping out of school, delinquency, eating disorders and substance abuse. Depression and suicidal ideation or behaviours are common.

LCEF works with school counsellors, youth workers, Community Service caseworkers, welfare agencies and police enforcement to identify the girls in greatest need of education, support and guidance. https://t.co/fRdQpCzqY7
SISTER2sister provides guidance, education, mentoring and a safe-haven for these Little Sisters, to break the cycle of abuse and neglect and help them turn their lives around.

The SISTER2sister program creates a carefully managed environment to decrease stress responses. Little Sisters are able then to attempt new experiences, to feel better about themselves, and be open to learning because they feel calmer and supported.
This can negatively affect their school life and mean they are less likely to achieve the educational outcomes (and in turn employment outcomes) they need to build a better future for themselves.
