Earlier this week, we learned that Pope Leo was scheduled for surgery to remove a nodule from his lung. Since then, the Vatican has shared that he was diagnosed with lung adenocarcinoma and a portion of his lung was removed. We send our best wishes to Pope Leo for a speedy recovery and that his prognosis remains positive.
Dr. Brendon Stiles, a member of LCRF's Board of Directors and Scientific Advisory Board, spoke with the Associated Press about the pontiff's diagnosis and surgery. https://t.co/8P2p2Y6zCJ
We are encouraged that the Vatican has been public about the pope's diagnosis and treatment, as it underscores that lung cancer can happen to anyone — if you have lungs, you can get #LungCancer — and that early detection is vital to better outcomes.
