🚨BREAKING: SELFRIDGE FUNDING SIGNED🚨
Our funding for new runways at Selfridge Air National Guard base has been SIGNED by Governor Whitmer.
The funding is critical to the historic fighter jet mission President Trump announced last year. House Republicans passed funding in March to get this done in time for the mission to succeed, and Senate Democrats finally passed it last week.
We rarely adopt formal resolutions like this, but I felt it was important to honor the life and legacy of Charlie Kirk on the House floor. That's why I introduced House Resolution 174 on Wednesday.
Charlie ignited a huge movement by inspiring and challenging an entire generation. His work meant so much to so many people, including many of our representatives and staff here at the Capitol. It has been incredible to hear all of the positive and hopeful stories over the past few days, and this was one way to honor his legacy.
Rest in peace, Charlie.
Welcome to the most transparent budget process in Michigan’s history.
As of yesterday, you can now see all earmark requests for the state budget MONTHS BEFORE it’s time to vote on it.
The Michigan Supreme Court on Wednesday rejected an effort to bypass the Court of Appeals in the Senate’s case seeking the House’s presentation of nine bills to the governor.
But the high court ordered the appellate panel to expedite its consideration of the case.
Here are some of the best lines as our members speak in favor of House Resolution 55, which supports abolishing the federal department of education 🧵🗣️
1) Speaker Matt Hall:
"I'm not afraid of taking the responsibility from the federal government."
“I don’t know about you, but I am getting really tired of talking about ‘the damn roads,’ so let’s actually fix them.”
- Rep. Jamie Thompson, speaking on the House Republican roads plan before the House today.
Michigan House GOP announces a supplemental that will close books + guarantee funding for essential services for next fiscal year - prisons, police, veterans, debt payments, schools.
GOP says it removes threats/leverage of a "govt shutdown" while budget negotiations continue.
Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s administration faced little to no oversight from Democrats who controlled the state Legislature over the last 2 years.
With Republicans in power in the House, that’s about to change. https://t.co/ecQgPv5bE6
Speaker-elect Matt Hall on AG Dana Nessel's comment that Whitsett and the House GOP's absence was criminal:
"There’s oversight coming, there’s going to be scrutiny on that budget."
Next term:
Speaker @RepMattHall will
1) Pass legislation fixing the tip credit and paid sick leave
2) Hold more than one session day between June and November
So, yeah things are looking up for the state under @MI_Republicans control
This should have been something we could all agree on. Saving 50,000 jobs. Ensuring our hospitality industry isn’t decimated.
Sad to see some chose politics over the hardworking people of MI.
Look forward to continuing to work with @RepMattHall and getting this done in 2025.
Hey Michigan Democrats👋
Since you closed the doors on the People this week asking you to let them keep their wages, we figured we would go talk to them for you.
Enjoy.
Enough is enough.
Democrats decided today that fixing the tip credit for the working people of MI is off the table.
They would rather let violent criminals out of prison early and give driver’s licenses to illegals.
Republicans are a hard NO until Michiganders are put first.
House Speaker-elect Matt Hall, with GOP caucus, announcing they won’t come back on the floor today until bills keeping the tipped credit and making changes to the sick leave laws are put up for a vote.
