Why do we have a Conservative government when only 43% of the electorate who turned out (29% of the electorate in total) voted for them? The majority voted for other parties. That's how the system works, yes. But is it fair? Do you care?

@Dennisw99863685 @TheWitcher3000 @Inforder @bolddigger52 Yes, we can vote in general and local elections. I think the FPTP system is not adequately democratic, and it's no wonder that it's so rarely used by other countries, but that's a side issue.

We don't elect the Lords or the monarch. Undemocratic, however you try to spin it.

If our representatives there were letting themselves be pushed around, we needed better representatives. Jumping overboard was not a good solution.

@safcpete67 @bolddigger52 It seems to be Tory party policy to keep pushing those sunlit uplands further and further away. Easiest deal in history, we hold all the cards, they need us... etc. Then 'oh but it's too early to feel the benefits', and now 'maybe your kids will get something out of it'.

But the premise was wrong, because the bureaucrats weren't unelected, and they never 'ruled' the UK. It was this kind of nonsense that duped the gullible saps who voted Leave.
