For years, E. Jean Carroll told the public — and a jury, under oath — that she received 𝘯𝘰 𝘰𝘶𝘵𝘴𝘪𝘥𝘦 𝘧𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨 for the lawsuits she brought against Donald Trump. Her own side’s court filings now tell a very different story.

A nonprofit called American Future Republic, backed by LinkedIn co-founder and billionaire Reid Hoffman, disclosed in its own 2020 tax filing that it steered $𝟕 𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐊𝐚𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐧 𝐇𝐞𝐜𝐤𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐅𝐢𝐧𝐤 — the law firm that represented Carroll. The money did not go to her directly. It went to the lawyers carrying her case, the kind of arrangement that conveniently keeps a funder’s name off the docket.

That funding 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐲𝐞𝐝 𝐡𝐢𝐝𝐝𝐞𝐧 𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐥 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟑, surfacing only after Carroll had already been deposed and her case was about to go to trial. Hoffman, who has publicly acknowledged past ties to Jeffrey Epstein and apologized for them, bankrolled the litigation from behind a tax-exempt curtain.

Now the Justice Department is investigating. The US Attorney’s office in Chicago has opened a criminal probe into possible money laundering, conspiracy, and obstruction — and, crucially, 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐥 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐣𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐟 when she testified about how her case was funded.

Strip it down. A woman whose accusation was treated as settled fact by every legacy outlet swore she had no financial backing, while a billionaire quietly routed seven million dollars to her legal team. The same press that amplified her, night after night, never once asked the obvious question: who is paying for all of this.

Jill Biden’s memoir tour brought her to The View, where Sunny Hostin read aloud the passage from Kamala Harris’s own book that the East Wing surely hoped no one would raise. It described, in Harris’s and Doug Emhoff’s telling, exactly how the Bidens treated their own running mate.

The words were brutal. The Bidens, the excerpt says, “𝘩𝘪𝘥𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘢𝘸𝘢𝘺 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘧𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘺𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘴, 𝘨𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘪𝘮𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘫𝘰𝘣𝘴”, never correct the record, never let you fight back when you’re attacked, and still “𝘢𝘴𝘬 𝘪𝘧 𝘸𝘦’𝘳𝘦 𝘭𝘰𝘺𝘢𝘭”. Hostin watched the former first lady’s face and said it for the room: “𝘠𝘰𝘶 𝘭𝘰𝘰𝘬 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘤𝘬𝘦𝘥”.

Jill’s reply was a flat denial. “𝐈 𝐧𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐬𝐚𝐰 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭. 𝐈 𝐧𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐟𝐞𝐥𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐰𝐚𝐲 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐊𝐚𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐚 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐃𝐨𝐮𝐠. 𝐈 𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐰𝐞 𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐚 𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐦”. The trouble is the woman now claiming she “𝘯𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘴𝘢𝘸” the tension everyone watched for years is the same author who, in her brand-new book, admits she watched the 2024 debate privately terrified — wondering, as she stared at her husband, “𝘪𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘢 𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘰𝘬𝘦?”.

That is the whole grift in a single contradiction. 𝐒𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐚𝐰 𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐲 𝐞𝐧𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐭𝐨 𝐟𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐚 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐤𝐞 𝐨𝐧 𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐲 𝐞𝐧𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐭𝐨 𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐲 𝐬𝐡𝐞 𝐚𝐬𝐤𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐫𝐞-𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐡𝐢𝐦. Rubin’s panel named the pattern: a circle of family, aides, and media “𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘭𝘪𝘤𝘪𝘵 𝘪𝘯 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘣𝘦 𝘢 𝘤𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘶𝘱” who have since “𝘴𝘢𝘪𝘭𝘦𝘥 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘶𝘯𝘴𝘦𝘵 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘣𝘰𝘰𝘬 𝘥𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘴”, each one cashing in on the very deception they helped sell.

𝐒𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐬𝐞𝐞 𝐰𝐞𝐥𝐥 𝐞𝐧𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐭𝐨 𝐟𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐚 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐤𝐞 𝐨𝐧 𝐜𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐚. 𝐒𝐡𝐞 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝𝐧’𝐭 𝐬𝐞𝐞 𝐢𝐭 𝐰𝐞𝐥𝐥 𝐞𝐧𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐥 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐭𝐡.

Victor Davis Hanson made the case that DEI isn’t a one-time hiring tweak but 𝐚 𝐥𝐢𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐧𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐬 — a spiral that, once begun, can never be admitted or reversed (Victor Davis Hanson, Daily Signal).

He calls it an act of “𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘪𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘰𝘮𝘪𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯”: admit or hire someone by a lowered standard, and every step after must be rigged to match — guaranteed promotion, remedial courses, the grade inflation he pegs at 𝟖𝟎 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐀’𝐬, the trigger warnings and safe spaces. Concede the standard was lowered and the whole edifice falls, so the lie has to compound forever.

The ugliest fruit, he argues, is a culture that turned one word into an epithet. “𝘞𝘩𝘪𝘵𝘦, 𝘸𝘩𝘪𝘵𝘦, 𝘸𝘩𝘪𝘵𝘦” — from Joy Reid to Jasmine Crockett — wielded as 𝐚 𝐩𝐞𝐣𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞, the last form of open contempt still applauded in polite company. Hanson traces the turn back to one presidency: “𝘮𝘰𝘴𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘣𝘢𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴... 𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘖𝘣𝘢𝘮𝘢”.

The deeper point is the double standard underneath it all: a society that excuses everything for one group and forgives nothing for another. Strip away the euphemisms and 𝐃𝐄𝐈 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐨𝐥𝐝 𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐢𝐥𝐬 𝐬𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦 𝐢𝐧 𝐚 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐫𝐨𝐛𝐞, sold as justice.

The prosecution has rested its case against Karmelo Anthony, now 19, charged in the fatal stabbing of 17-year-old Austin Metcalf at a Frisco ISD track meet on April 2, 2025. The two teens attended rival schools and 𝐝𝐢𝐝 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡 𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 before the altercation at David Kuykendall Stadium that ended Metcalf’s life. After five days and 𝐭𝐰𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐲-𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬, the state turned the case over to the defense.

The most devastating testimony came from the coroner. Collin County’s chief medical examiner, Dr. Elizabeth Ventura, testified that the cause of death was a stab wound to the chest and the manner was homicide. She described an oval wound roughly 𝐭𝐰𝐨 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐬 𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐠 that she called “𝘨𝘢𝘱𝘪𝘯𝘨” — one that perforated the chest bone and the pericardium and penetrated the right ventricle of the heart. Asked by prosecutors whether the wound was survivable, she answered with a single word: “𝘯𝘰”.

Anthony pled not guilty and claims self-defense. But the prosecution told jurors his actions had nothing to do with defending himself — that he “𝘱𝘭𝘶𝘯𝘨𝘦𝘥” the knife into Metcalf’s chest — and student witnesses testified they had 𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝𝐥𝐲 𝐚𝐬𝐤𝐞𝐝 𝐀𝐧𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐧𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭 before the confrontation turned deadly.

Across the week the jury heard from teen eyewitnesses, coaches, first responders, police, forensic experts, and a video analyst — the full chain of a homicide reconstructed in a courtroom. With the state rested, the defense has begun calling its own witnesses, and the case is expected to run roughly another week before it goes to the jury.

He told them the truth with what little breath he had left. Eighteen-year-old Henry Nowak, a British university student, lay bleeding on a Southampton street and kept telling the officers standing over him that he had been stabbed. The man who had just driven an eight-inch dagger into Henry’s chest five times was twenty-three-year-old Vickrum Digwa. This is what happens when policing stops asking who is bleeding and starts asking who said the magic word. A boy died in handcuffs because one accusation — 𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘪𝘴𝘵 — carried more weight with those officers than a dying man begging for help. That is the same logic now hanging over the courtroom itself. Opening arguments began this week with 𝐧𝐨 𝐁𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐣𝐮𝐫𝐨𝐫𝐬 𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 after prosecutors struck three Black panelists and the judge overruled the defense’s objection — and activists are already calling the trial “𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘦𝘳 𝘰𝘧 𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘪𝘴𝘮”, as though a fair jury is the injustice and the m∗rder is the formality.

Austin Metcalf cannot speak for himself. The people who turned the boy who k!lled him into a cause have decided he never deserved to.
