Longford's first competitive victory over Down came in the Grounds Tournament semi-final at Croke Park in October 1968. The competition pitted each of that years All-Ireland semi-finalists against a team on the other side of the draw. The double-bill saw 31,133 in attendance.

Flashback to July 2010.... Longford hurlers had just won the Lory Meagher Cup, while the footballers were preparing for a Championship qualifier vs Down having beaten Mayo in a famous win, and Longford Minors were on the march towards the Leinster MFC title!
Ahead of this Sunday's Lory Meagher Cup final at Croke Park, here is a look back at Longford's first time winning the title in 2010 vs Donegal. Gareth Ghee scored 1-9 in a famous win at Croke Park. This was the second year of the new Lory Meagher Cup competition.
Flashback to ACFL 1989. Rathcline won Division 1 (Leader Cup), St. Marys Granard won Division 2 (Michael Moran Cup) & Abbeylara won Division 3 (Patsy Reilly Cup). The next year in 1990, ACFL was changed to 4 Divisions of 6 & new trophy introduced for finishing top of Division 1.
