Minister talked about "complex scenarios" being the reason the UK could not bring in refugees more quickly - begs the question why other countries seem to find it so simple. Time to live up to our obligations with a simple, fast and safe route for refugees to come to the UK. 2/2
Challenging the immigration minister @kevin_j_foster on the Home Office's laughable inaction on refugees from Ukraine. Foster's defence regarding "security concerns" would be a little more credible if he hadn't first said they could come to pick fruit. 1/2
It would be tempting to make a joke as others have. Instead I am simply frustrated that in the middle of a humanitarian crisis in Ukraine the first port of call for the Home Office is to spin the government's lagging response on refugees, rather than to take real action.
We are calling for:
🇺🇦A fast resettlement scheme to resettle Ukrainian refugees in the UK.
🇺🇦Scrapping the law that criminalises Ukrainian refugees coming here for asylum.
🇺🇦A five-year funding package for every person a local council resettles.

The Nationality and Borders Bill is immoral. I worry that Ukrainians seeking safety in the UK will be criminalised by Government.
The Government must also ensure that stepchildren and grandchildren qualify for the Government's scheme. My question to the Home Secretary 👇
It is bitterly disappointing that the Government today decided to object to my bill which would provide indefinite leave to remain for foreign health and social care workers who have sacrificed so much during the pandemic.

This week in Parliament, an MP asked our Policy Manager @ZoeJardiniere "Why don't people just claim asylum in France?"
Her answer was a masterclass...
EU residents discriminated against because, unlike other overseas migrants, they are not given a paper copy of their residency permit Instead they have to prove their legitimacy with a share code that allows service providers to view their status online https://t.co/WJ61XKiRDG
Next time an anti-immigration blowhard opines that "Britain is full", tell them yes, it's full of cows.
And the fact that they prioritise that speaks worlds about their values.

@MarinaHyde Quarantining and biosecurity should have been better — but remember that many UK *residents* are not British nationals.
The right to enter the country must include all the people who live here, no matter what the colour of their passport!
