#MedinaMondayMessage: We must protect lesson planning time for #duallanguage teachers. DL teachers do everything non-dual teachers do, but they do so in two nation languages. This requires a specific skill set and also, doesnโt happen by chance. Biliteracy requires time to plan!
@RutgersAltRoute I try to not put so much pressure with assessments. I tell my students assessments are for me to see how well Iโm teaching you and where I can improve on. #TeacherEd#GrowthMindset
@RutgersAltRoute A4: Speaking positively about mistakes and struggles helps my ML students see that taking risks (especially when answering in English) is a part of the learning process. I tell them I Love their English. It wonโt always be perfect and itโs ok! #TeacherEd#GrowthMindset#ESL
@RutgersAltRoute Knowing my students helps me frame how I approach lessons. My message to them is hard work pays off. I love giving them challenges and working through it with them to show that giving up isnโt an option! #TeacherEd#GrowthMindset
@aye_mrjames@RutgersAltRoute Yes! Connecting and building relationships with each student is the key to helping build the confidence to believe in you and what you say.
@RutgersAltRoute A2: I promote Growth Mindset by connecting with their cultures. I make sure to incorporate words and phrases and allow all students to share their experiences. #TeacherEd#GrowthMindset#ESL
@RutgersAltRoute A1: Many of my ML students come with mindset challenges because of their cultural bias and lack of feeling smart enough. They compare themselves to their English speaking counterparts and struggle with self confidence.
Resources such as community engagement and collaborative learning communities are ways teachers can build a culturally responsive classroom. #TeacherEd#diverselearners
@lpijanowski Yes! Students need to have a clear and constructive feedback. Grading has to be tied to standards otherwise how are we grading! #TeacherEd#grading

@RutgersAltRoute Thank you so much for these Q&Aโs! It is nice to be able to use technology to connect with each other and continue our lifelong process of learning as teachers.

@RutgersAltRoute A5: Establishing open communication with your students from day 1 by showing you are someone they can trust. Having a listening ear is key. They need to feel you are someone they can talk to and not be judged.

@RutgersAltRoute A4: Sometimes itโs difficult to know if it is bullying. I am always questioning and I reach out to our school guidance counselor. I always want to ensure I am protecting all my students.

@RutgersAltRoute A3: I send out a newsletter twice a month via email and a hard copy translated for my parents. I provide tips and tricks and encourage them to reach out with any concerns. We hold assemblies to encourage and reinforce positivity amongst all.
#TeacherEd#SafeSchools
@RutgersAltRoute A2: For me this is something I am constantly monitoring. My students are Multilingual learners and often mispronounce words which leads to others giggling and laughing. I am always encouraging my students to have empathy and use positive reinforcements like stickers and prizes.
