An overnight frost and it’s all changed! Snow on the fells today has been transformed and is much firmer and in places hard snow-ice that requires a lot of care where unavoidable. @Sportiva @Petzl @lyonequipment

Even at the lower altitude of Mousthwaite Comb on Blencathra this morning the snowpack is sending us some warning signs! Naturally occurring fracture lines like this are avalanche threat ‘alarm bells’. #summitsafely

Heeded my own advice & turned back before Helvellyn here on Birkhouse Moor where I measured the wind speed at 58mph. There were definitely stronger gusts but I didn't hang around for long!! As can be seen still no snow even on Helvellyn's east face (in the background). Jon

CMRT were called out yesterday at 16.30 to a casualty who had been caught by an avalanche whilst climbing Central Gully in Coire an t-Sneachda. The climber had sustained a lower leg injury during the fall and his climbing partner remained on belay, unharmed.
