The police have clearly learned nothing from the public backlash following the murder of Henry Nowak.

The British public isn't asking for special treatment. They're asking for one simple principle:

Fair policing.

If people believe the law is being applied differently depending on who you are, confidence in policing collapses.

Two tier policing is unacceptable.

Two Metropolitan Police officers tracked down a man in a pub over social media posts criticising a local councillor’s decision to ban outside seating alongside the Thames. They acknowledged he had committed no crime, yet warned him about the law on harassment.

If no offence had been committed, should police be using their time to warn people over lawful political criticism?

The further footage only makes this look worse.

It shows the victim of the attack who had already been arrested being escorted to the police car, with a female officer calling him a “dick”, before he's put into the police vehicle the wrong way.

From start to finish, the whole incident appears to have been handled poorly.

In my view, the police should stop doubling down, acknowledge that serious questions have been raised, apologise if mistakes were made, and carry out a full, transparent investigation into what went wrong.

Public confidence isn't restored by telling people not to share the footage. It's restored by showing accountability when policing appears to fall below the standard the public expects.
