Congratulations to the 2023 LIU STEM Design Challenge champions, The Environmental Eagles. They will be presenting their “Pollution Preventer and Purifier” design in May at the state competition! @LIU12_STEM@dasdleib
Currently presenting our design that takes pollution from factory smokestacks to power a water purifier. This design can help solve global problems of pollution and climate change. @LIU12_STEM@dasdleib#STEMinPA
The Leib Environmental Eagles are getting ready to compete at this year’s STEM Design Competition at @LIU12_STEM . Looking forward to presenting our “Pollution Preventer and Purifier” design. @dasdleib#STEMinPA
This image of @dasdleib was taken by students in our drone club! It is great to have kids outside using the technology and working together. #STEMinPA@LIU12_STEM@DJIGlobal
Today, the first round of buttons were passed out to students who passed the test and demonstrated their knowledge of being ready to fly a drone. Next steps are getting them outside to fly. @dasdleib@LIU12_STEM @LeibPto
4th Grade students designed a fair experiment by figuring out what type of feeder birds at Leib like better. Students measured and collected data to figure out our birds preferred the tube feeder. @dasdleib
Our main event of this year’s STEM Showdown was creating a gondola to safely bring battery “people” down the mountain. Students also created blueprints and were judged on creativity, communication and safety. @LeibPto @dasdleib@LIU12_STEM#STEMinPA
This year’s STEM Showdown featured a magnet race. Students used attraction and repulsion to finish in the fastest time. @dasdleib@LIU12_STEM @LeibPto #STEMinPA
Travity of the Science Guys of Baltimore did an AMAZING job kicking off our annual STEM Showdown. We are looking forward to a day of designing, building, coding and creating! @dasdleib@LIU12_STEM@scienceguysbalt#STEMinPA
Today the Kinetic Turbo Turners were named state runner-ups in the STEM Design Challenge State Competition in the Grades 4-5 division. Their design uses ocean waves to make a hybrid ship causing less fossil fuel reliance. #LeibPROUD@dasdleib@LIU12_STEM@moceanenergy@DoverSD
Congratulations to the Leib Elementary Rebel Raccoons for their 7th place finish in the 5th and 6th Grade York County Envirothon competition. Way to bring home a ribbon and represent Leib well! @dasdleib@yorkcountypa@YorkCountyParks
At our recent “Spring Fling,” 4th Grade students worked together to build a boat out of Peeps. Creativity and ingenuity were on full display in meeting this challenge! @dasdleib@LIU12_STEM@PEEPSANDCOMPANY@PEEPSBrand
CONGRATS to the Kinetic Turbo Turners, 4th and 5th Grade champs in the annual LIU STEM Design Challenge. Their design utilizes the power of ocean waves to create a hybrid ship improving transportation. We are so excited for states in May! @dasdleib@LIU12_STEM@moceanenergy
Today is “Mystery Box” day. Students were given a box of materials to answer the question “Can I make a light bulb light?” Some objects were useful while others were not. Perseverance and collaboration were in full display to solve this problem. @dasdleib@LIU12_STEM
The day’s most efficient cup (91%) came from Block 3 today. This design used insulation and tin foil to find success! All students today did an amazing job applying the engineering design process including reflection and analysis. #STEMinPA@dasdleib@LIU12_STEM
Block 2’s STEM insulated cup design challenge winner was 83% efficient with her design by using cotton pads, bubble wrap, aluminum foil and aluminum tape. Multiple students mentioned how much fun building and designing can be. #FutureEngineers#STEMinPA@dasdleib@LIU12_STEM
Congrats to our Block 1 STEM insulated cup design cup challenge winner. By using rice, hand warmers, styrofoam and foil, her design was 89% efficient in keeping water warm. Great discussion had about what did and didn’t work. @dasdleib@LIU12_STEM#STEMinPA
This week, our 4th Grade team met on Zoom with a design engineer from Mocean Energy in Edinburgh, Scotland, to discuss our wave powered hybrid cargo ship design for the upcoming LIU STEM Design Challenge. What a great opportunity for our students! @moceanenergy@dasdleib
