🇺🇸A STRIKING CONTRAST: A video circulating online shows men in #Somaliland military uniforms proudly waving the American flag during celebrations in Hargeisa, while earlier footage purportedly shows a #Somalia soldier stepping on the U.S. flag.
Two contrasting scenes involving the American flag in Somaliland and Somalia.
Joined @i24NEWS_EN Middle East Now with @natasharaquel_ to talk about why UAE recognition of #Somaliland isn't a question of if - it's when.
A decade of investment, every diplomatic cost already paid. While outdated orgs such as @arableague_gs condemns, the UAE builds futures.
#History On December 26, 2025, an Islamic Republic and a Jewish State recognized one another—marking a historic day that reshaped global politics.

Khadar Hussein Abdi, Somaliland’s Minister for Presidential Affairs, fires back at Somalia:
“Somalia’s daydreams change nothing. Berbera is the birthplace of our President, and the United Arab Emirates is a trusted partner of Somaliland. The UAE invested in Berbera when others doubted us—now everyone talks about it. We are a nation of principles and we stand by our allies. The UAE is here to stay, no matter what the weak authorities in Mogadishu say.”

Somalia’s UN ambassador reportedly connected to Ohio healthcare company convicted of Medicaid fraud.
Sources note he “served as UN Security Council president and has links to a Cincinnati service.”
Today, at the Presidential Palace, I received
@gidonsaar H.E. Mr. Gideon Sa’ar, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Israel, and a high-level delegation on an official visit to the Republic of Somaliland, the first such visit by a foreign minister in 34 years after recognition. I conveyed my deep appreciation to the Government of Israel for its historic and courageous decision of 26 December 2025 to formally recognize the Republic of Somaliland. This milestone reflects a relationship founded on mutual respect and shared interests, aimed at cooperation and stability without prejudice to any party.
I emphasized that this recognition opens a new chapter of formal diplomatic relations, security, economic, and development cooperation, serving the mutual interests of both nations and contributing positively to peace and stability in the Horn of Africa.
I also reaffirmed that Somaliland is a reliable and responsible partner, strategically positioned and committed to advancing regional and international peace, security, and constructive engagement.
Somaliland to receive recognition by Kenya, Morocco, Ethiopia, UAE and India today.
A coordinated announcement is expected later today as reports also come in of several diplomatic delegations arriving in Hargeisa.

Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar said it was a “great honor” to carry out the first-ever official political visit to Somaliland, following an invitation from President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi.
Sa’ar stressed that the visit sends a clear message: Israel is determined to fast-track political and diplomatic ties with Somaliland. He confirmed holding what he described as substantive and wide-ranging discussions with the president and senior officials on advancing bilateral relations.
Recognizing Somaliland isn’t charity — it’s strategy. It aligns with America’s security interests and the “America First” doctrine by strengthening an ally that shares our values in a region vital to global trade and counterterrorism.

Somaliland: The Strategic Gateway the World Can No Longer Ignore
At the crossroads of Africa, the Middle East, and Asia lies a stable, democratic, and strategically vital nation overlooking the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden — #Somaliland.
For over three decades, Somaliland has maintained peace, built democratic institutions, and safeguarded one of the world’s most important maritime corridors, through which over 12% of global trade passes.
With Israel’s historic recognition, the global conversation has shifted. The question is no longer whether Somaliland will be recognized — but who will lead next.
🇺🇸 For the United States, Somaliland offers:
A reliable democratic partner in a volatile region
Strategic access to the Red Sea
A counterbalance to instability and unchecked Chinese expansion
🇮🇳 For #India, Somaliland represents:
A natural Indo-Pacific partner
Secure maritime cooperation
A stable gateway to African markets and energy diversification
Recognition is not charity. It is strategy.
The gateway is open. History rewards those who act early.
▶️ Watch. Share. Engage.
The Government of the Republic of #Somaliland affirms its principled alignment with the #UnitedStates in support of calibrated international action to uphold constitutional order and the rule of law in #Venezuela, and to support a peaceful, #Venezuelan led #transition.
For anyone who forgot, this is what the African Union itself determined regarding Somaliland:
“The fact that the union between Somaliland and Somalia was never ratified and also malfunctioned when it went into action from 1960 to 1990, makes Somaliland's search for recognition historically unique and self-justified in African political history.”
🇮🇱🇦🇪🇸🇴 After Israel’s recognition, the UAE has quietly followed suit by recognizing #Somaliland without a formal announcement.
The UAE is now accepting Somaliland passports and official documents on its visa portal, while Somalia passport holders are barred from obtaining UAE visas.
The UN Security Council will convene on Monday for an urgent session following Israel's recognition of the Republic of Somaliland.
We will not shy away from political discussions.
Israel will continue to act responsibly and with discretion, in order to strengthen cooperation with partners who contribute to regional stability.
