Update on FF Matt Dawson:
Overall Matt is doing better than expected. He has been able to respond to his wife. Today has been a rest day. The MRI results have been better than expected. He has had a positive response to the neurological checks (wiggling his fingers and toes).
Official statement from LPFFA972. This morning LFR LT Eric Hill, FF Matt Dawson and LPD Officer Nicholas Reyna were struck by a vehicle while working an accident on I 27. LT Hill and Officer Reyna are deceased and FF Dawson is in critical condition. More info to follow

Today we learned that one of our own unexpectedly passed away. Lieutenant Kurt Kitten was a 19 year veteran of Lubbock Fire Rescue. He served his family, crew and city with unwavering loyalty. He will be sorely missed by all of us.

BREAKING NEWS: Governor Abbott signs SB 2551 into law. This bill relates to the liability of certain political subdivisions for certain workers' compensation claims. Firefighters will get the coverage & medical treatment they need to recover from an illness/injury under this bill
